Don't know about a dip but a cut to me is a small indention in a shoreline. Could be anything from a barely noticeable indention in the bank, to a small cove.

A cut as you have described can be located on off shore structure.

It would describe a "dip" or "gut"

The problem with fishing terms is localisms!

When I hear cut and dip I think catfish bait.

cut bait = cut up pieces of fresh fish

dip bait = a pail of manufactured goo that you dip a hook into to load your hook.

I heard the term "saddle yrs ago". From the shore the bottom dropped off, then a considerable rise ,then dropped again.

cut..................what happens if your sloppy with your knife

dip..................what you put between your cheek and gum when your wife's not feeling romantic
