NEED HELP WITH FLIPPING COMBO!!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! Been a while since I've been on. (Busy with work) but now that I'm back, I have some questions. I recently made a trip to a place here in WA state called potholes reservoir. Not having the best largemouth fisheries in eastern WA, I was extremely surprised on how good the fishing was and the size of fish! Anyways, long story short. Of all the techniques I tried, flipping jigs into cover was the way to go. Didn't catch a fish under 3lb! (That's pretty good for here) so now I want to put together a good (decent for the price) flipping stick combo. So, keeping it around 3-350$ what combo do you guys think would be the best bang for my buck? I'm currently looking at shimano curado I series reel 7.3.1 ratio but still not sure. Please help!! Thanks!

I vote a new eBay curado I for a about $130, and hunt down a used loomis imx. It's what I did for my jig combo and I picked up a older recoil guide imx for $160(way better than my new imx's)

Are you actually flipping or pitching?  The 2 seem to be interchangeable terms nowadays.  A lot of guys like to flip with a 7'6" rod.  You could pick up a tatula 7'6" heavy on eBay for $120. I'd put a tatula CT on it.

Never been a fan of eBay. I've had a few bad experiences. I don't mind buying new.

Yudo1 - I'm new to bass fishing so I'm not sure. What I do is hold my jig in my hand and use the other to flip the rod towards my intended target.

And I've been doing a lot of reading and it seems that the curado I and tatula are pretty popular reels for the price range. Which is better?

You can get them brand new on eBay.  You are pitching which is much more common.  I almost exclusively pitch.  I use  a shorter rod for pitching (7'2") and at 5'10" I feel like I'm more accurate.  The curado I would make a great pitching reel.  There are so many rods to choose from.  Figure out the weight of lures your using and the type of cover.  Usually a heavy powered rod is popular.  I think you want something 7' or longer.  You can get a good deal on curado I's and tatulas leaving you about $200 for the rod.  A 7'2" heavy shimano zodias would be sweet with the curado.  Memorial day sales are the time to buy.

Mostly where I'm at is heavy timber and some thick grass I typically through a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce jig with vilecraw trailers. So I was thinking 7-7'3" heavy rod? Does that sound good? What do you think about *** black rods? I've read they're really good for pitching/flipping.

That is also a good choice.  The shimano zodias would be nice too.  I use a megabass xx perfect pitch, but it's a $300 rod.  I also love my 7'3" heavy klx.

You get those results because that company is banned from this site.

Look at there items sold and feedback, most big dealers have at least 500 items sold and a 98% feedback or better

Well I bit the bullet and bought the curado 201hg. So far I love the reel! Now I need to find a good rod for it. This weekend should be a good time to look. Thanks everyone!

Im a fan of bps carbonlites and curados. I own a few flipping setups currently and love this pair for the price, but to each their own.  There is so much to choose from out there now that its hard to go wrong in your budget.

eBay has a money back guarantee policy so your money is safe. I buy there all the time and have never had one occasion to use this policy anyways.
