Reel handle doesnt engage reel?

Featured Replies

I have a Quantam Matrix baitcasting reel. When I turn the handle after casting it just keeps spinning and the spool still free spools. In order to engage the reel again I need to manually push the button up. Anyone have the fix?

Have you taken the side plate off recently? I've had a few reels that would do that if I took the side plate off and didn't hold the thumb bar up while replacing the side plate.

Take apart and give a good cleaning and grease those moving parts. It may be that the mechanism that does that function is so dirty it won't engage. If you can't get it, BPS will probably fix it for $19.95 + shipping. They've fixed 2 reels for me for minimal cost.

I had the same problem with a BPS Rick Clunn reel that I bought new. It was basically a $100 reel on sale for about $70. I had some buyer's remorse. I took apart and lubed it and it has slowly gotten better over time. Now it's one of my favorites. Kinda like a good 191A1 pistol, it needed some breaking in.

Thanks guys I'm going to try both.

If you can't fix it yourself send it to dvt.

The forum member price is $19.80 plus shipping and you get a full deep cleaning. If you haven't had the reel apart it's likely just dirty.

I appreciate the responses. I disassembled it and I cleaned all the parts that engage the reel and its working better then ever now.
