Does anyone have any recommended spots to fish for bass on the strip pits in south east Kansas. I have heard about the trout lake. But can anyone give me any other good strip pits for bass fishing. I am driving down Friday morning. Very excited. 

Most of the pits by oswego, scammon and Columbus are good. If you see a big orange crane, you are in the right place. 

The ones down towards the southwest end of the pits are my favorites. The closer you get to the Pittsburg the more pressure they get. If you see shad flipping or swimming around, you're in the right pits. If you fish the trout pit you have to have a trout permit, regardless of if you're fishing for them or not. The trout pit has some of the biggest fish in the state, but they're not dumb either. 

Are the strips public or private? Heard of them, never fished them.

Public, they're called the Mined Land Wildlife Area.

Some are private, and trust me... the are well marked if they are. Those pit dumps have some fertile soil if ya know what I mean. 

First off I want to apologize to the 2 people that pm'ed in early June. Haven't been on here in awhile. Now on to the question of what ones to fish. Personally I say stay out of the trout pit. You have to get a trout permit to fish it and in 5 yrs of fishing have not done well there at all. Some of the better ones imo are between 60th and 80th roads. These roads run north/south. It is best if you get a Mined Life map. Shows all of them. The pit where Big Brutus sits isn't that good either,once again,my opinion. My best luck comes from using a 7" Tequila Sunrise power bait worm weightless. Toss towards shore line and let it sink about 5 seconds. Then work it back to boat. This has produced alot of bass for me the past few years. So far this year I haven't caught anything to brag about. Biggest was close to 4lbs so far. I'll look at my map tomorrow and get a few pit numbers that I like to fish and post them.
