Best bait for a lake?

Featured Replies

Going to bass fish at greers ferry lake in northern Arkansas. Wondering what type of bait to use for smallmouth and large mouth. The depth is anywhere from 20-50ft. They just put 37,000 shad in each end of the lake because the bass ate them all. I was thinking a deep diving shad colored crankbait. Or maybe a spinner bait?

The Rage Tail Menace is another option that has been working for me.

Not knowing anything about that lake, I try throwing differnt cranks in all areas of the water column, throw some swimming baits (swim baits, Cut R's etc) in scattered grass, and jigs all over the place.

I´ve been to a lot of lakes in my life, bass are bass here and in China and it´s more a matter of locating the fish than with what you are going to catch them:

Soft plastic worms have caught bass in 100% of those places

Lipless Cranks another 100 %

Spinnerbaits another 100%

Jigs .... guess what ? yup, you guessed right, another 100%

So, the best bait for ANY lake no matter where in the world are: those baits I mentioned above.
