Non lead Ned alternative?

Recommended Posts

I live in NH we can not use any jigs that are lead and under 1 oz so I'm looking for a good alternative shroom style jig head I can throw the Ned rig on. Hoping someone might have some good ideas. Thanks In advance.

I use these -

They are a High Quality Tungsten unit.

The Zappu Cocho Cocho Head Plus comes equipped with an Owner #2 size hook, slightly larger than the #4 hook that is fitted on the original Cocho Cocho Head.

Thanks for the info.  I also fish in  NH and Maine and I am in need of non lead lures.

What you could do is make some of your own possibly cheaper. I fly fish some and you could pick up a jig hook of the proper size and put a tungsten or brass bead or cone head on it and for good measure add some non lead wire weight to push up against the bead or cone. To finish I would build up some thread behind the wire to keep it from slipping down the hook keeping the bead or cone in place. You can weigh them to decide the size of the beads, wire, and how many wraps of wire are needed. I can tie one up if you are interested to see, not anything I have tried, but it got the fly tier in me thinking.

I was thinking about lead alternatives and I am going to try molding Worm Nose jigheads using hot glue with BBs. I have not figured out how many BBs to use for 1/16, 3/32, etc, nor have I figured out how to paint the jig heads, but I thought I'd put the idea out there for someone with more time to try.

I got the idea for hot glue jig heads from TU and made a few jigheads but haven't tried them yet. Here's a pic of a poison tail jighead made by injecting hot glue from a regular hot glue gun.

I have some of the Keitech non-lead jigs that I am trying out.  One of them has a single strand weedguard and one has the tiniest brush weedguard I have ever seen.  I have only tried them out once so far, but they seem to work well and hold the lures unglued as well as most other jigs, which is to say not well at all.
