Good cheap fishing rod

Featured Replies

Hey yall, I am looking for a good rod under 25 bucks for temporary use till I can get a better rod. I was looking at a Berkley cherry wood HD 7' to pair with a Abu Garcia orra s 30 spinning reel. I would like somthing in the 6'6 to 7' range please.

Several Walmart's in my area are closing out the Berkley Lightning Rod Shocks & the Jimmy Houston rods for $25.00. The Houston rods surprised me with their quality.

Guess I better check out my Walmart .

I've seen this but was wondering how good it was, do you have any experience with it?

I have to 5'6'' UL for crappie/bluegill/panfish fishing and it is awesome, at least in my experience.  It's durable, sensitive, and casts very nicely.  It's been dropped on concrete, fallen out of canoes, and even accidently met with my ceiling fan.  Still bulletproof though.

If you're looking for a temporary rod, it's tough to beat it.  You could also look on craigslist or ebay for a 'better' rod or combo under your price point

at that price point, I like the Cherrywood over the Stimula. It is lighter and has more sensitivity

I asked my dad who has had a cherrywood if it was any good and he said it snapped in two weeks pulling in a less than 5 lb cat and I was thinking I want something to last at least 2-3 weeks.

sweet, do you know how good the shipping speed is? I was looking at the abu vengeance already but that was 50 and they have it for 25.

I believe it takes 3 days with standard shipping to reach my house.  I think your father was unlucky or else he high sticked the rod.  Ask Josh Smith about his Cherrywood rods.

o, that's surprising for standard. I have heard a lot of people say snapped under the tip.

I bought a shimano sojourn spinning rod, 6' 6" medium fast for $30, I haven't got to pull in any big'uns with it yet, but it's a pretty decent rod for the money.

I went with the Abu vengeance 6'6" medium heavy for 25. The shipping was 6. Thank you for all the feed back!

so I got the rod in today! I love it so far, it came in the older black version though and it is very sensitive for a medium heavy rod, I hav so far caught 3 bass, 2 panfish, and a small channel catfish. It performed very well on all these fish and the largest was a bass at 4.23 pounds. I paired it with an abu Garcia orra s in the 30 size. I'll update yall if I change my opinion at all.
