Tracker Boats

Recommended Posts

I've been thumbing through some mags lately and clicking through the web sites.

Just LOOKING...... but kinda like what I see in a Tracker as far as features for the price.

Mod - V Pro 175 for under 10G's complete or the same boat in the "panfish" version (less raised decking) for under 9G's complete.

That seems real reasonable.

What do you Tracker owners think of your boats..... happy or not?

I have been looking at the 175 also.  I think they have a special going until the end of march.  Motor upgrade, etc.  But the $9k price is a litte sly on thier part.  That price is with a 25HP motor, + you have to add transportation by differnt zones, and dealer prep.  Just be sure you get all that info with the dealer.  I priced one out with a 60HP and it was a little over $15K.  Just fyi.  You might alos look at the Gambler.  It looks pretty sweet too.

I bought a Tracker 185 in 2003 and it's worked out great for me.  A 50 HP Mercury,  Motorguide trolling motor.  Interstate  batterier for cranking and trolling.

On board charging system for your trolling motor battery.

All I had to do was dump it in the water and fish.

I think it's a great fishing boat.

Do you find that an 18 gal. livewell is a little small?   10 fish in 18 gal. of water scares me a bit.  Anyone ever get 10 fish in there before?  I fish in a local club that you have to take a non-boater with you.  If we each get a decent sized limit, i'm afraid the fish may all be in danger.  Comments??

As far as the motor size, believe it or not the 25hp is too BIG for me.

I live in the wonderful "tree-hugging" state of New Jersey and 9.9 is max HP allowed in all but 2 lakes in this wonderful state.

Most lakes are actually electric only (as my 2 home lakes are) , a few allow the 9.9.

Combine that with the fact that I have to work 60+ hours a week just to be privledged enough to pay my OUTRAGEOUS taxes (in this wonderful tree-hugging state) I rarely get the chance to travel out of state to fish those nasty oil poluted lakes in the other non enviro-friendly states that surround me.

I could actually downgrade to the 9.9 and save money! (I could use it to pay a very small portion of my property taxes)

I know what you are all thinking........... the answer is called a "wife".

She said we could buy a house in a "nicer" state, but I'd be living in it alone...... she'd be in Jersey with the kids.

I'm workin on her though.

Excuse me, I mentioned the Gambler inmy earlier post, comparing that to the Tracker.  I meant to say the G3 Eagle 175.  Don't get me wrong, those Gamblers are nice boats, but for the limitied amount of fishing I can do, I can't justify buying a Gambler.

I am looking at either the G# or Bass Tracker.

hey stump grinder i too am from our fabled state and feel you have misrepresented it. there are 4 lakes you can use better than 9.9hp that i know of  ;D .a tracker will serve you well in our state i know lots of guys with them who fish tournaments and have no problems.  from what i have read though you wouldnt want them on big water they can't take a beating.  the live wells are small. one friend of mine has a dry storage box on his pro team 175 and he converted it into a livewell. good luck with your purchase!

I won Bass Angler of the Year with a Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 and Runner Up Angler of the year in another club. It certainly is not the boat that catches the fish. With a 40HP Mercury that was very reliable. Speed was to be desired at less than 30 mph. I used this to my advantage by dropping that trolling motor as soon as possible in areas fairly close to the launch and Keeping the line wet. Too much time on plane is a killer too.

I have now upgraded to a Skeeter and a 150 but plan on using the same smart plans again. 2-3 fishing wholes and concentrate my fishing on certain areas where I always know there is fish. Find em in practice and never gamble unless you have to during a tournament.

By the way, The $20K to $30K boats were not to happy about being beat. Its not the boat, its you.

Livewell: The live well in a 175 was plenty to hold a limit and it constantly recirculates. I prefer to remove the divider and mark my fish and the non-boater has no worries. His are not marked. My only concern would be if your at an area in the South that has some big whopper fish during spawning season, it could get harry putting 2 limits of 50 lbs in a livewell.   My 2 cents.

Have a great weekend all.

I have a Silver Anniversary Tracker Pro 185 and here are the pros and cons.

Pros - Nice size for two guys.  50 HP Mercury can get you up to 30 MPH. Shallow draft which means you can get into shallow places.  Storage compartemetns are OK.

Cons - Take boat to a local marine repair shop as the dealer I purchaed it from is an idiot and I don't trust his work.  Will take boat 70 miles east to Bass Pro Shop for future work and to a Mercury dealer 20 miles south to work on motor.  Storage locks too short and can't lock them.  Gauges work half the time.  Had to put in a circuit breaker for trolling motor (off trolling motor battery) as the fuses and fuse system is poorly designed.  Storage for your fishing poles is not the greatest.

However, with all that said (and I probably forgot some stuff) it is a nice small boat that can get you to and from the dock but not fast.

My wife picked it out as it is wide enough for her to lay down and relax as I fish in the front of the boat.

Tracker is a good "starter" boat and now I have my eye on a Ranger!!!!

And don't forget to put the plug in the boat before you launch. Even Trackers can sink.

I have a 2004 Tracker 17SC Deep V with a 90HP ELPTO, a 24V 78LB thrust Minn Kota universal sonar Eagle Fishmark 480 auto/co pilot and a console mounted Lowrance LMS480 GPS with galvanized trailer for under $14,000 added a stainless steel prop $400 and upgraded the GPS display unit to a Lowrance LCX17M in 2005 same boat has gone up $3,000 at the price I paid I thought it was a good deal boat runs great being my first boat I'm well pleased with it. Deep V's are fairly big up here in north I suppose their not big in the southern states up here their called Walleye Boats although Tracker calls them Multi-Species which in essence is true. With two Anglers, gear and 30gals. of fuel I get about 42mph out of her.

Great boat and all welded not riveted as well.

I have a 95 Pro 18 Jet. It has a 90 hp Merc. on it. I've had it for about 2 years now. Have not had any problems with it. It's perfect for Prague Lake. It is full of stumps and you have to be reallly carefull on it. I will more than likely keep this boat when I get a bigger one.

i have a 2005 proteam 185 with a 90 merc on it and i can't say how much i love it!!! it's my 2cd pt185-broke the first one but warranty replaced it with a brand new upgrade-can't beat that!mine does 46mph and don't think i need the 115 it's rated for-did upgrade the trolling motor as it didn't pull to good in the wind.as for the livewell-it's done me fine with double limits in it(2005 model has pump-in/out and aereated too).only downside i've found is the gas tank just ain't big enough to make long tourney runs-i give my boat loaded to the gills a 50 mile range(round trip).i looked for a year before purchasing a tracker and i would recommend it for fishability and price and durability!
