  1. Hey,to everyone here who may end up reading this and anyone who can help me.what is the best thing to use while tring to create your on brush pile and where to put it .i have heard a lot about pine trees and cedar trees, but ive also heard about people putting down pvc pipe in some way or another whats best? ??? 8) 8)
  2. Stay on fish in touraments. Many times anglers search for new spots when fishing tournaments. Location Location Location! Stay where you have done your homework and found fish. It certainly has increased my productivity.
  3. I won Bass Angler of the Year with a Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 and Runner Up Angler of the year in another club. It certainly is not the boat that catches the fish. With a 40HP Mercury that was very reliable. Speed was to be desired at less than 30 mph. I used this to my advantage by dropping that trolling motor as soon as possible in areas fairly close to the launch and Keeping the line wet. Too much time on plane is a killer too. I have now upgraded to a Skeeter and a 150 but plan on using the same smart plans again. 2-3 fishing wholes and concentrate my fishing on certain areas where I always know there is fish. Find em in practice and never gamble unless you have to during a tournament. By the way, The $20K to $30K boats were not to happy about being beat. Its not the boat, its you. Livewell: The live well in a 175 was plenty to hold a limit and it constantly recirculates. I prefer to remove the divider and mark my fish and the non-boater has no worries. His are not marked. My only concern would be if your at an area in the South that has some big whopper fish during spawning season, it could get harry putting 2 limits of 50 lbs in a livewell. My 2 cents. Have a great weekend all.
  4. JT, I have to say both. To please a sponsor takes work. To start with a start up or mom and pop makes a lot of sense when your trying to move forward with your chosen career path. The more you help them succeed, the more support you get. As you know, cracking through with corporations and the big dollar sponsors is more paperwork. To get the $$$ you need the business attitude with resume and all the legal ease. SP Basically, I am at the stage after talking of putting together a solid business plan for a bigger company who does construction nation wide. So to answer this directly, both. Close no doors. Use all your resources and Networking certainly helps. Have a great day.
  5. Find you a natural color Rapala jerk bait. Just under the surface. Smallmouth hate them. GL
  6. Dont forget the Split shot and Reaper. Awesome Cali bait. Good Luck and lets get a fishing report. I gotta wait til May. SET THE HOOK!
  7. I am in Negotiations. : ) Happy too. Come on May, I am ready to fish and the Skeeter is itching too.
  8. I agree with the Palomar knot. Although I do use a improved clinch knot on spinner baits and buzzbaits. At times I feel they run truer. If you practice your palomar, you can tie it in under 30 seconds. Does not sound like much but during a tournament, it could be the difference between second and first.
  9. I believe you guys need to check out this sleeper. In Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. Last June we were up there or as they say UP NORT and had a Smallmouth Fiesta. 5 fish limits of 16 lbs were not uncommon. Door County is absolutely beautiful and rich in culture which makes it a great family outing. Still confused? Its the inlet between Lake Michigan and Green Bay. A great kept secret and a worthy trip. Im going again this year, just for fun.
  10. No, it will not. I have actually caught fish and seen them healed up around a old hook mark. Good Luck and enjoy that Catch and Release.

I retired June 1st 2004 from the Navy! Saltwater is now for the fish. Im stayin in fresh water and searching now for only bass. Those big saltwater fish can eat you. lol Cast em if you got em!
  12. The Potomoc River is a Great Largemouth spot if your wanting a quantity of largemouth. Giant fish, San Diego California has Lake Otay, Lake Hodges. LA area you have Casitas. Check spelling. Smallmouth on Sturgeon Bay is Terrific in Wisconsin. This time of year, I suggest California or Lake Toho in Florida.
  13. Im not in but Im betting on the Bass to win. This post gets me out of Newbie status. YEAH
  14. Shad Master summed it up right. FISH was the voice of BASS. Bad marketing move. On with the show...
  15. If you think thats funny, it gets better. I live in the Windy City. Once that plastic catches fire, be careful. I poured it out of the pan and on the ground. It spread worse than Back Draft the movie. So with my brilliance and my white Nikes, I stepped on it plooooooop oozing everwhere with fire to boot. Those Black Nike's are pretty colorful, minus a inch of sole. Great fishing shoes. lol Im not trying to disourage you. I didnt have a Garage back then with ventilation. If you can get the heat under control, use a steady hand. It can be a fun hobby. Thoughts of my own tackle empire really came crashing down though. The mold I bought was a pretty good mold. Pouring only 7 Senkos at a time and 3 - 4 being good after I mastered this trade was not a good average. I figure my time is worth something. To get a 10 bag of Senkos should be worth a half hour of time. Unless your using BPS Stickos, then you need to double that output to make it worthwhile. Im spending my cash in the store or on the internet. I just didnt have the patience for it. Ive seen some great California platic pourers. Its and art. Its fun but dont lose the house or the garage over it. Make sure you think safety. Also make sure mama's not home for a week if you try it in the house. You will never get the smell out in time. I am envisioning the pros using a Vat type Cooker to maintain exact temp controls on the plastic when you melt it. With a direct injection spout. If you find that at a reasonable price, I would certainly try it again. Have a great day! Skip Senkos, dont Simmer them.
  16. Schooled by Denny Brauer. Hands down. Very good breakdown of good and bad points. Im loving this new Red Fish cup. Never fished for them but you get a lot of fishing time on the show. I certainly believe bass guys can be schooled by some of the pros.
  17. Welcome and dont back seat me anytime soon. Welcome aboard.
  18. Advertising does affect us all. I do believe that another fisherman catching fish with a lure is a better model. Thats why we have sponsors supporting us at a federation level. Im not a strike king or booyah guy. I like my sponsors bait but I have bought the bargain basement spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits for a $1 and caught bass. I believe if you get a well tuned SB or BB you will have success. The bass doesnt read the name of the bait or the price you paid on the way buy. Support your company, sponsor a fisherman. Fisherman, support your sponsor.
  19. I firmly believe that this system works to some extent. I used the ones from BASS Magazine and at times they seemed off by an hour. Either direction, before or after the times stated. So its not an exact science. Obviously for night fishing, its very accurate and will help your evening fishing. I will be on my best fishing hole during prime time feeding cycles. I also will give the forecasters a little leeway on being off. Certainly not a time I want to be on plane. I won Angler of the Year in one club and Runner up in another. I was on fish reguardless of lunar times. I dont search for fish in a tourney. Ive already found them. I hope this helps. Im sure others have other opinions. Good Luck
  20. In Wisconsin we have a great Wed tournament. Its only $10 to get in. I think about a 95-100% payback. Tourney director fishes for free. He lets you volunteer twice in a year to help him bump and weigh in. For doing this you get the #1 and #2 takeoff order for the starting positions, depending on who volunteered first. The rest of the positions are drawn for. You also have to come in 15 minutes early for this benefit. Some lakes are small, so if there are a lot of boats there, its wise to volunteer, especially if your on fish. $5 club fee, one time registration. Covers mailings and the like. We fish from 6PM til sunset. I find it a great way to break up the week and I thoroughly enjoy it.
  21. I spent $300 or more trying to make my own Senkos. Bought a cast iron mold. Considering GYBC gets me for about $500 a year on one color, I thought I would give it a shot. I paid $100 for a Alluminum mold that is 2 part and screws together. I will be the first to admit, you need patience trying to do this. DO NOT DO IT IN THE HOUSE!!! Overheating will cause a big fire of the plastics. The fumes will choke you to death. You need a very steady hand and pour slowly. Then I finally got some baits made. Caught a pike on a few but most of them ended up having a hollow inner section which would make them float and not fall like I would have liked. I have given this idea up and am paying the pros. It was fun but be careful. Good Luck.
  22. I did some more homework and found this: In fresh water, sound waves travel at 1,482 meters per second (about 3,315 mph) Now given that ugly casts will certainly alert a fish because that is abnormal from above. Unless your fishing a walnut tree in the fall and there use to nuts falling on them. Odds are, they will act adversely to this. But with the speed of travel , I dont believe music or anything else would severely effect a bass as much as a visual would. Back on subject. Surely there is a color that bass least likely see for a boat color or garment? Having the understanding that movement would trigger a change in environment. So fish up sun? If your fishing with the sun at your back, your creating shadows with movement. Does the sun effect fish eyes like humans? All good questions I believe. Wheres the bass professor?
  23. Is avoiding gas with ethenol in it possible in the midwest?
  24. With lots of clear water around me, lots of people laughed at my hunters orange camo jacket when I wore it on fishing days. As the season went on, I kind of felt it did. I eliminated the funky jacket and ended up doing well. Last years Angler of the year in my club bought a new boat. Did the color turn the fish off? He did well in stained to dirty water tourneys. Although he did rotten in clear water tournaments. The only thing that changed was his boats. His numbers in clear water went down. No Offense Squid, but your boats bright red. What color would be best or a fish cant see?
  25. Well, I just upgraded my boat and motor. I Took Angler of the year in one club and Runner up in the other in a Bass Tracker. So I went from a 40HP to a 150 HP. I did aweful well consolidating my fishing to a few close areas. With sometimes a one long milk run built in. Now I can visit more spots but is it worth the time with the bait in the water.... Interesting thought. I think I will used a managed effecient time approach. One long run if required if I have several locations in the same area. Makiing long runs in the Tracker only made sense if I had more than one area. I would say this would make the same sense for the big boat. No, money wont be a factor.
