LUNKER
Find you a natural color Rapala jerk bait. Just under the surface. Smallmouth hate them. GL
Super User Marty Posted March 30, 2005 Super User Share Posted March 30, 2005 If you're talking lakes, smallies generally are in cooler, deeper water, often rocky-bottomed, than largemouth and are not as cover-oriented. They'll take a full assortment of baits. Burning a chartreuse spinnerbait can be good. So are jerkbaits, crankbaits, jigs with grubs and don't forget topwaters. L.D.
Didn't say where you were fishing, but go to the rocks and use a tube jig

Super User roadwarrior Posted March 30, 2005 Super User Share Posted March 30, 2005 This is my formula: Current, structure, light line and shiners. If you want to catch bigger fish, move away from the bank and focus on deeper structure.
Bronze12
I've had great luck with shad raps and husky jerks. Floating rapalas twitched across the surface can be a blast too. Last year I started using any kind of french fry type baits (senkos, YUM dingers, etc.) on some deeper structure and had a lot of luck.
