Looking For A New Spinnerbait Rod

Featured Replies

Hey guys, Im in the market for a new spinnerbait rod. Ive had a 7' MH Abu Garcia Veritas for about 2 years and it has been nothing but good to me. I have it paired with a Shimano Curado 200i. Seeing as the spinnerbait is one of the things I have the most confidence in I figured it was time for an upgrade. Im looking for someting in the 6'9" to 7'3" range. I would like to be able to throw everything from 1/4oz finesse spinnerbaits to larger 3/4oz spinnerbaits with one rod but this is not the most important thing. I would like to stay around the 100-225$ range. Rods ive been looking at are these:

Lews Custom speed stick spinnerbait rod

Cashion rods

Fitzgerald rods

Irod Genesis II (stone cold vibrating jig, lone star special, 7mh)

Halo Twilite II 7'3" mh

Like I said these are just rods im looking at so I am definitely open to any other suggestions yall may have. Thanks for the help guys.

What is it about the Veritas you have that isn't to your liking?

I would like something a little more sensitive and the veritas I have has seen some hard wear and tear just think its time for something newer/nicer

I am a big fan of spinner baits also.  Have you looked at the gloomis spinner bait rod?  Very light very sensitive.  About ten dollars over your budget?  My first loomis  rod and still one of my favorites .

For Spinnerbaits I like to use a Medium-Fast Action Rod  instead of a Medium/Heavy-Fast Action. That way I can also throw Buzzbaits with it.?. But to each his own...

Good Luck on what ever you choose!

I like the Irods alot, and have the Gabes Rip Rap special and a Fred heavy spinning rod also.  The Stone Cold vibrating jig rod is terrific, a friend has that.  I also would look at Powell they have a Max3d series. Check out the Max3d 734 or Max3d 723. Both are awesome. I own a Max 683 for jigs around docks.  I love it for a lot more.  May be my most versatile rod. One more to check out is a Dobyns Fury 703 or 733. They are real great rods too. The funny thing is a new tackle shop opened up near me in Baltimore Md. He carries all of these as well as more brands. I have recently had all of them in my hand. By the way I own the same Veritas rod. It makes a nice frog rod.  The rods I suggested all run between $100 and $175 so I tried to stay in your budget and left a little to put towards a good reel. I suggest a Diawa Tatula in a 6.3 -1.  Good luck shopping

The lews custom speed stick would be a very nice spinnerbait rod

daiwa tatula 6'10" MHF.  can be found on sale for about $110 right now.  i've tried many rods that were well over that price range and none of them suited me better than the tatula.

I would look into the Kistler Argon spinnerbait special. I'm use a carbon steel (as step down from the argon) and it has been nothing but great for me. If you wanted something a little bit longer, they have longer rods in the argon series as well

Ok guys I think I have it narrowed down:

Cashion 6'9" or 7' MH

Fitzgerald 7' MH

Irod Crusher 7'MH

Kistler Magnesium 2 6'9" or 7' MH

I know this is almost long as the original list but I think one of these 4 is what im going to get. Anyone own one of these 4 rods? I would love to hear what you Think of them. Also any insight to the 7' or 6'9" would be helpful. I have always used a 7' rod for spinnerbaits and can cast it with a good deal of accuracy. I was just wondering if there was any overwhelming reason to choose one over the other. Thanks guys

I throw spinnerbaits on a Dobyns Champion 734C. Spinnerbaits, jigs, spooks, chaterbaits, small swimbaits...this rod is very versatile. It is a little softer than it's specs say. You can find it on sale for $200 frequently.

I really like the Lew's Rod you mentioned. But I'd recommend the Dobyns Champion 734, or the Fury if want a cheaper option.

i'm gonna cast a vote for the Berkley Shock series. dont let the low price fool you.
