Slow rolling spinnerbaits late winter / prespawn
Hey guys. I’m an avid spinnerbait fisherman. It’s my go to when I don’t know what to do and I always seem to catch fish on them. One thing I have a question about is slow rolling larger spinnerbaits in the early spring and prespawn times of the year. I’m thinking of getting some 3/4oz double Colorado spinnerbaits for this. Pairing them with a 7’6” MH rod, a 5.1:1 reel and some 16lb fluoro. One do y’all think this would be a good setup? Second is double Colorado blades what I need and if so what size blades should I be looking for? Third, do you guys use a trailer for this technique? And lastly what kind of cover/structure are you guys looking for when throwing this and what depth ranges? Thanks for the info guys

Swim jig rod questions/reccomendations
What’s up guys. I’m looking for a new swim jig rod and had a couple questions. I primarily fish two swim jigs. I fish a Dave’s tournament tackle 1/4oz swim jig which is more of an all around lighter jig. The other jig I swim is a gambler heavy cover swim jig in 5/16oz. I have a lews team lite magnum grass rod 7’2” H fast that I originally bought for swim jigs. It’s a great rod but not what I’m looking for in a swim jig rod. It has the backbone I want but lacks the softer tip I’m looking for for accurate casts. Then I went to a lews custom speed stick magnum bass 2 rod 7’2” mh fast. This rod is great for the 1/4 oz swim jig with a small trailer on it but feels a little light for the heavier jig I throw with a swimbait trailer on it. So there is my problem I know I could use two different rods but I would like to get away with one if I can. Some of the rods I’m looking at are listed below: Lews custom speed stick magnum grass rod 7’2” heavy fast 3/8-1oz( this is the speed stick version of the team lite rod I have. I was thinking of this one because I feel like this like of rods are a little “softer” than the team lites) lews custom speed stick pitching stick 7’4” Heavy fast 1/2-2oz lews tp1 black speed stick pitching stick 7’4” heavy fast 3/16-1 1/2oz lews tp1 (original white) pitching/grass 7’3” heavy fast 3/8-1 1/2oz any help with this would be great guys. Especially if you have one of the above mentioned rods. I would like to keep the brand to lews but am open to other suggestions. Thanks

New Lew's Custom Lite Speed Stick (Spinning) ?
I have two of the lite shakey head rods. I use them for most of my fitness presentations ( shad raps, shakey head, finesse swimbaits, wacky rig, etc.) and I love them. Very light and very sensitive. I would definitely not hesitate to buy another one. An added bonus you can’t beat a lifetime warranty!

7’11” MH rod for Carolina rigs / football jigs
Hey guys. Just watched a video with mark Davis about Carolina rig fishing and it got me thinking about buying a new setup. I’m looking at the lews team lite 7’11” MH Rod for Carolina rigging/football jigs/ and other deeper water and jig techniques. I would pair this with a high speed reel (8:1 or 7:1) and probably 15 or 16lb fluorocarbon. Was wondering if anyone was using a setup similar to this? I like the idea of a long rod to take up line in deeper water and think it would be a good jig rod for casting jigs. Also I’m 6’6” tall so I tend to prefer longer rods anyways. Just seeing what you guys think of a setup like this or if you would change anything. Thanks guys.

Tungsten VS Lead Shakey Head
Hey guys. I was wondering if you guys think tungsten shakey head are worth the money or is lead the way to go. I went to a lake this past weekend with a lot of spotted bass and caught a ton of fish on a shakey head. It’s the first time I’ve ever really had any success with a shakey head and now I’m hooked. I was using 1/8 oz Trokar Pro-v head jig which is tungsten. The only down side to them is they are pretty pricey. So what do you guys think is tungsten the way to go or would lead be the better option. Thanks guys.

Lake Gaston NC reports
Hey guys. Ive got a small club tournament at Gaston this weekend and was wondering if I could get some reports as to how it’s setting up. I’m not going to be able to practice Friday so any little bit helps. Hopefully it’s setting up better than Kerr has the past 3 weeks it’s been brutal. Thanks guys.

Shakey head on casting gear?
Hey guys. I’ve decided to really fish the shakey head more this year and was wonder if there were any real disadvantages to throwing it on a casting setup. I was thinking a medium moderate action rod with 12lb test and a 6.8 reel. I have spinning setups but I am just not as proficient with them. What are you guys thoughts on this.

Lews David Fritts Perfect Cranking Rod VS Lews Custom Speed Stick Crankbait Rod
Hey guys Im looking at getting a couple new cranking rods and was wondering if yall could help me. Ive narrowed it down to either the lews david fritts perfect cranking rods or the lews custom speed stick crankbait rods. I already have a few custom speed sticks and really like them but dont know if the graphite blank would be the best. Obviously I like the 79.99 price point of the fritts rod over the 129.99 of the speed stick but price really isnt the deciding factor here. I want something that I could crank with all day if need be that wouldnt wear me out. I also want a quality rod, I know lews is known for quality but the sub hundred dollar price of the fritts rod has me a little worried. Also I know the custom speed sticks have a lifetime warranty where as I dont think the fritts rods would. I want a few different lengths for different applications and most noteably am looking at the 6'9" MH and the 7' M rods for squarebills and medium diving crankbaits respectively. I would be pairing these rods with Lews BB1's. Any input at all would be greatly appreciated guys and always thanks for all the help.

High Rock Co-Angler help
Hey guys, I have a two day club tournament July 29th and 30th at High Rock Lake. I will be fishing this as a co-angler. I have never been to High Rock and don't know if I will be able to practice with my angler at all. After doing some reading and talking to the guys in the club I figure almost everyone will be staying shallow and fishing docks, maybe a little carolina rigging and deeper fishing but not much. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me on fishing this lake. I figure for the docks I will be throwing a texas rigged south african special (heard this was the high rock color?) trick worm, and flipping a jig under them. Around the docks I will probably be throwing a buzzbait and white swim jig around the docks. I think this tournament is going to be a put your head down and grind it out kind of deal so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the help guys!

Smith Mountain Lake Pre-Spawn/Spawn Help
Are spinnerbaits really a good choice for such clear water? Are people fishing them shallow around docks or deeper on points?

Smith Mountain Lake Pre-Spawn/Spawn Help
Yeah ah I forgot to mention shakey head as well. My boater did pretty well last year skipping a shakey head under docks. Sam was one of the first people to answer my questions about SML last year I'm sure he will be along directly haha

Smith Mountain Lake Pre-Spawn/Spawn Help
Whats up guys I have a club tournament as a co-angler April 8th and 9th at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia and need some help. We fished here around the same time last year and it sucked to say the least. There were three other large tournaments going on so it was very heavily pressured. I ended up with one nice 4lb fish and one 1.5lb fish at the end of 3 days of fishing. Both came on a 3/8th ounce living rubber jig fished around docks. So I need some help to say the least. My plan as of now is this: I know pretty much everyone in our club boater wise will be focusing on docks the entire time so I feel like I need to prepare for that. In the morning its spook time, im going to throw a Zara spook around the docks as much as I can first thing in the morning and see if I can catch any crusing fish early. Once the sun gets up im pretty muck planning on skipping a wacky worm and drop shotting around docks the rest of the day. The only thing that sucks is I have about 0% confidence in the drop shot and wacky rig so im hoping my morning topwater pays off haha. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. Dock fishing and Clear water are far from my comfort zone so I really struggle with this. Thanks guys.

New Finesse Setup Question
Hey guys Im looking to add a new finesse rod setup to the arsenal. I have a upcoming tournament on a super clear water lake with highly pressured fish and want to add another spinning setup to the mix so I can have a few different things rigged up. I already have a lews HM85 speed stick lite 7ft Mxf (the shakey head one) and was thinking about getting another one. I really like it and think it would be more useful than adding the lews HM85 speed stick lite drop shot rod which is a 6'10"MLxf rod. I feel like with the medium light pretty much all you can do is drop shot, but with the medium xtra fast I feel like I can do alot more like shakey head, wacky rig, and dropshot. Just wondering what everyones thoughts were on this. I will be pairing this with some sort of 2500 size reel. Thanks for the info guys.

Let's talk punch skirts
Hey guys, I was sondeting if anyone used punch skirts for flipping things other than heavy vegetation, like docks, laydowns, or bushes. I was looking on tackle warehouse at different kinds of punch skirts and it got me thinking. I love to flip laydowns and flooded bushes with soft plastics. I was wondering if adding a punch skirt would help me trigger bites or trigger bigger bites. Just wondering what you guys thoughts were on this. Thanks guys.

Larger weights for flipping
Hey guys I was wondering what yalls thoughts were on using heavier weights (1/2, 3/4, larger) when flipping wood and bushes. Where I live there's not a whole lot of vegetation, mostly laydowns and flooded bushes. I do fish some areas with Lilly pads and sparse grass but I don't fish them much. I love heavy cover fishing, mostly flipping with beaver style baits. My go to weight has always been 3/8 for flipping like this but after some reading and on the water expierence this summer it has me thinking that if I had upped my weight I may have triggered some more bites. Has anyone had any luck with this? I assume this would work in more so in he summer than the early part of the year. Just looking for some info from fellow anglers on this. Thanks guys.

Just wondering if anyone knew if they would do this.

Lews Custom Speed Stick VS Custom Speed Stick Lite HM85
Thanks for the info man. If you don't mind me asking do you have anyother models? If so what are they and what do you use them for. I kind of want an idea of the versatility of the offerings they have. Thanks.

Lews Custom Speed Stick VS Custom Speed Stick Lite HM85
Whats up guys. Im looking at these two rods and was wondering what your guys opinion of them was. I was thinking about getting the regular custom speed sticks for moving baits and the lite HM85 rods for anything bottom contact. I was wondering if you guys that have either of them can tell me if the HM85's are really that much more sensitive? The rod that im looking at is the mag hammer which is a 7'3" MH rod that I want to use for jigs in sparser cover and soft plastics. Both the regular custom speed stick and the lite HM85 have this model so im just wondering which one to get. Also I would just like you guys opinion of these two rods in general. Im looking to get these to upgrade some lower quality rods that I have. Thanks for all the info guys.
