Multi Purpose Rods for Co-angler
Hey guys, this will be my first year fishing tournaments and I will be doing so as a co-angler. I know we are limited to 5 maybe 6 rods so I want to have well rounded rods that can be used in a multitude of situations. I have a few rods that I think would be good multipurpose setups but wanted your guys input on this. What is everyone using to cover most situations as a co-angler? heres a few of what I plan on using: 7'6" cabelas tournament zx heavy flipping stick with Lews Tournament MB 8.3:1 reel with 20lb fluro (would change out to braid if tournament was a vegatation lake), I plan on using this for flipping mostly since shallow water is my strong suit. This is one of the rods that I dont really know what else I would use for other than flipping. Any insight into this would be appreciated 7' Medium heavy Cabelas Tourney Trail spinning rod with tournament zx spinning reel 10lb braid with 8lb fluro leader, This is pretty much anything finesse, wacky rig, ned rig, weightless senko and fluke, dropshot 7'3" cabelas tournament zx heavy frog rod with Diawa Tatula 6.3:1, This is my favorite rod and the one I find has the most uses 20lb fluro. I primarly bought this for swim jig and soft swimbait fishing but figure I can use it for frogs and for worm and jig fishing in lighter cover and offshore 7' med heavy abu garcia veritas casting rod with 6.3:1:1 shimano Curado200I 15lb mono This is for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and buzzbaits I was also thinking I could use this for some larger crankbaits and lipless Crankbaits 6'6" Med Heavy Cabelas Prodigy with 6.3:1 Diawa Tatula 12lb mono This isnt really my favorite rod and one that I kind of just threw in the mix. I figure I could use this for topwater, jerkbaits, and lighter crankbaits such as shad raps Any Insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Do you guys think that this lineup will serve me well. Any changes in rod reel ratio line you would make? I know this is alot but just want to make sure I can face whatever kind of water/boater I am faced with. Thanks for all the help guys! I also forgot to add I have another 7'mh casting rod with BPS pro qualifer in 7.3:1 that I use for lighter worms and jigs in lighter cover that I could throw in the mix but dont know what I would take out to put it in the line up. Thanks for the help guys

Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm
Thanks for the info guys. I would love to hear if anyone has any other tips. As far as colors go I got green pumpkin and junebug. I figured these two would be very versatile colors for most situations, once I fish them more and see how things go I can fine tune colors from there.

Kerr Lake In Late March
Hey guys, Im fishing my first tournament ever on Kerr Lake/Buggs Island Lake, in the end of march. I will be fishing this tournament as a co-angler. I was wondering if anyone has any tips for me. From what I have read is that if the water is up and we should probably be fishing in the bushes. I would assume jigs and beaver style baits? Ive also read primary and secondary points are a good choice for this time of year. For this im assuming shad raps and footballs jigs? Any info/help would be greatly appreciated guys

Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm
Hey guys, I bought some of these at the BPS classic this weekend. I got the Magnum 7" kind. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on these. I know they are a big deal when fishing around grass, but most of the lakes I fish offer mostly bushes/wood/rock cover. From what ive read they basically fish like a soft swimbait, maybe mostly just a more subtle presentation. Like I said any tips would be greatly appreciated. Also what kind/size hook would you recommend for these, and what type rod and reel? Thanks for all the Help guys.

Keitech Swing Impact FAT ?
I had good success with these as swim jig trailers this summer in shad patterns. My only problem with them is that they are kind of expensive and very fragile.

Question about the Cabelas Advanced Angler Bag
This will be my first year fishing as a co-angler at the club level. I hope to eventually start fishing as a co-angler in BFL's later on. Im looking into getting a Cabelas advanced angler tackle bag. I need some help deciding on getting the magnum or super magnum. I obviously want to be able to get as much stuff in the bag as possible but dont want to get something that is going to be obnoxiously big. I keep my spinnerbaits in a plano elite 3607 spinnerbait organizer and was hoping these would fit in one of the outside compartments. Do you guys suggest the magnum or super magnum? Also anyone that uses this as a co-angler any input would be greatly appreciated.

rod lure weight rating question
Ok im looking into getting one of the mag lews speed sticks. Im looking at the 7'11" heavy rod. I will be using this as my primary flipping and pitching setup for heavier cover. The rod is rated for 1/2 oz to 3oz. I like to flip and pitch soft plastics wtih 1/4 oz weights sometimes and 3/8 oz jigs as well. My question is with the 1/4 oz weight, bulkier soft plastic, and hook do you think I will be over the 1/2 oz mark? what about 3/8 oz jigs with trailer? I know the obvious answer is to weight it but im not going to weigh all the combos that I would ever throw on this. Like is said this will be used for all weights 1/4 oz to punching weights I just wanted to know what you guys thought about this? Also I know there are other larger rods around this length that are rated for 1/4oz to whatever weight but im really liking this rod and am probably going to get it depending on yalls answers. Thanks for the info guys.

Which line for spinnerbaits?
I use 15# suffix siege mono
-
What line should I buy?
+1 with you being new to bait casting gear I wouldn't spend to much on higher end lines because you are probably going to be stripping it off after a big ole birds nest.

What is your setup for swimjigs and bladed jigs?
For swim jigs I am using a cabelas tournament zx frog rod 7'3" H with a 6.3 daiwa tatula. I have it spooled with 20lb fluorocarbon. This is one of my favorite setups. For vibrating jigs I use a 7' MH Abu Garcia veritas with a shimano curado 200i 6.4. It's spooled with 15lb suffix siege. This is also what I use for spinnerbaits.

Getting a start in tournament fishing as a non-boater
Let me preface this by saying I have zero tournament fishing experience. Ok now that we have that out of the way, Im looking into getting started in tournament fishing. I don't have a boat as of now so I would be looking to start as a Co-angler/Non-boater. Most of all im looking to learn as much as I can. Im assuming I need to look for a local club that has non-boaters as a part of their tournament. I realize from what I have read on top of any club dues I need to split all the gas for truck and boat with the boater I will be fishing with, Im good with this and glad to do so. A few questions I have are: As a non-boater, how many rods do you usually take? What do you take your tackle in? Just like a tackle bag that has multiple plano boxes in it? Are most boaters willing to share knowladge and help out non-boaters ( im not looking on how-tos and remedial stuff, im mean like tips on tournament fishing) Do boaters and non boaters need to get together before the tournament? what needs to be discussed? Thanks for the info guys. One last thing, If you have any other info I would love to hear it. I would also love to hear how you guys got your start in tournament fishing as a non -boater. Thanks for all the help guys. I will let you know how things pan out. Thanks guys
