What do you do with your line after a day of fishing?

Featured Replies

Quick question for you all: after a day of fishing do you reel all your line back onto the spool and then attach the end to the line holder on the reel or do you leave a hook on the end of your line and leave it through the guides and use the "hook holder"?

thanks in advance from a rookie

Whatever I was using stays on and the hook goes in the holder. Line tight until I get home and then I loosen the line so it's not taut. I also always remove any plastics I have rigged. One because it saves money re- using and also the salt can cause the hooks to rust. Try not to hook onto the guides any Knicks could damage your line in the future.

With braid I just use hook holder on rod leave it ready for next outing.

With fluorocarbon I cut lure/hook off, reel in the rest of the line onto spool. I will tie knot fresh next outing. I feel the knot gets worse with FC line the longer its tied.

It varies for me, I don't like leaving treble hook baits on, but I don't mind a Texas rig. Really depends on what you think at the end of the day.

I hook my bait onto the hook keeper and put rod and reel covers on. If it's a treble hooked bait, I also put a bait wrap around it. If I reeled my line into the my reel before I put it back in the locker, it was a bad day, at least for that reel.

I just leave on what I already had on it. But I do cut off treble hook lures and when I'm about to leave I put rod and reel covers on. Sometimes I will cut leaders off if I need to.

I'm with blue on this one, as it's pretty much what I do as well.

I take off all plastics and hook onto the keeper. For hard baits I leave them tied on and hook on the rod. Back off the drag on all. I retie everything before useing it again. .

I attach my lure or hook to the hook keeper on the rod, then put a lure wrap around it before I take my rods in the house. I have a curious cat that likes to inspect my gear everytime I get home so the lure wraps are necessary as I don't want her hooking herself.

Me too, except I have curious dogs.

I'll usually take the lure off and put it away, but leave the swivel on and attach to the bottom place holder (not the bottom guide) Interesting thought from Quake though...Can't tell you how many times I question the knot before a fishing trip. I may have to start tying new knots every weekend on at least my crankbait setup
