Hey everyone. I was out fishing today at a small lake and its the first time I've fished this lake from a boat. My question is, what would you guys throw or what technique would you use in the lake where the lake bed is basically all vegetation? I didn't cover a huge amount of water today but what I did cover all I could see was vegetation. The only thing I threw today was a spinner bait for a few hours this afternoon. Got 2 small bass about 1/2 pound and a six inch perch. I always start with spinner baits because they are my confidence bait but also im hugely inexperienced using anything else. I have crank baits and soft plastics but don't really know how to fish them in so much vegetation. I'm also fishing from a inflatable boat and can't stand up so that limits me a bit on techniques too. Oh and the vegetation is pretty much bottom to top. I don't think it gets much deeper than maybe 15 feet I've heard and where I was fishing I'd say was around 6 feet.

Good time of year and a good bait for the cover you're describing is a big Florida rigged worm.   AKA pegged TX rig.

if it's submerged vegetation, I like swim jigs.  It allows me to get a little deeper than a Spinnerbait or chatter type baits.  The key is to make some contact with the vegetation.  

It sounds like a perfect  scenario  for a punch rig. Another option might be a bubba shot, depending on how thick the vegetation is. If the weeds don't reach the surface, a wake bait can be retrieved at any speed and a light weight shakey head with a saltless worm  will rest atop thick weeds.

As stated above, swim jig, frog also t rig or superfluke.Maybe a jitterbug.Practice with weedless rubber you'll get the hang of it.Good luck.

I lke to use a flat sided Yum Swurm , no weight and a large hook . Texas rig it .

The only way to get more confident in something. Is to do it more often. That applies to everything ! Driving a car, swimming underwater , shooting a bow and arrow. And most importantly. Your crank baits and soft plastics. It can be overwhelming trying to keep up with all the ways you can fish a soft plastic. On a jig, t rig, c rig, drop shot. Weightless , wacky 

I would figure out a couple techniques . Like the t rig. Get good (and confident with it) and THEN try and do something else  . 

If your water is clear , I would suggest starting with some crank baits. You can see how they move from a distance. Try your best to make it look injured, and panicked. You'd be surprised how many fish you'll catch just trying to perfect your retrieve. You can fish em slow, fast, and a mix of both. Jerks and pauses. You'll find what works for you, as it changes with the seasons. I don't care what anybody says; I catch fish on crank/jerkbaits year round. Even in the snow. (as long as the water isnt frozen over)
