ID this fish please

Featured Replies

I caught this guy last summer on an offshore charter. I have passed it off as a White Grunt since but i am really starting to doubt it. Someone please help?image.jpeg

That fish has no ID, he isn't old enough to drive yet and no pockets to carry it in.

It's a grunt, what kind I don't know. But it's definitely a grunt.

Thats what i was thinking. Could it be a sailors choice grunt? Thats the closest i can find.

grouper bait lol

More like shark bait. I caught this on a charter and the crew said i could keep it so i hooked it up as live bait. Within a moment i had something that mustve been 200lbs or something crazy because i was hanging on for dear life. It ended up snapping the line so i guess we will never know.

x2 Looks like a black sea bass to me.

Definitely  not a black  sea bass.

Looks like a small white grunt but not for certain. There are several  grunt species  that look similar. White grunt do inhabit Florida saltwater.

I caught a black sea bass earlier that trip. With that said i'd have to agree with this,

After a better look, I would have to agree that it is not a sea bass, based on the forked tail.

Thats a nice  size sea bass.

They're  pretty  good eating  too.

oh yea tasted awesome! we got some fresh blues that day as well!

It's definitely a grunt, and appears to be a tomate grunt. It has the stripe running across its face and you can barely see the black dot on its tail.
