New to mass, tackle help

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm new to mass and was hoping to get a insiders view on tackle you all find useful up here or places to fish.  I am a bank fisherman and primarily fish the Charles near Watertown and am starting to explore ponds in the area as well. Any advice would help, thanks in advance.

Off the top of my head, I primarily fish: wacky rigged senkos, single and double tail grubs on jig heads, ned rigs, swimbaits, texas rigged rage craws, shaky head worms, fat ikas...I've done well with all of those this year.

Whopper plopper has been really effective for me. I was fishing under the BU bridge yesterday, and had 4 bites right before the sunset.

Hey Broke bass, up here is really no different than what you're probably used to fishing with. We've been experiencing some really hot weather and the fish will be deep and in their dog days of summer mode. Think deeper water, obviously near structure or cover and fish your favorite finesse baits. Fishing later in the evening would probably be a better option this time of year as it is with most of the country.

I would start slow and if all else fails, speed it up with some horizontal presentations. I find that the bass up here are about the same as the rest of the country and don't read the same books and view the same youtube vids we do...LOL

I grew up in the next town over and my parents still live in the same house so it would be a good op to meet up one day if you're interested and I can go visit them after.

Good luck and stay safe.

Try hitting up Crystal Lake in Newton for largemouth or trout. I have fished there many times and almost always catch a few small bass. It receives more fishing pressure, but the Brookline Reservoir is another good shore fishing option for that area.

Early morning topwaters work well, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, plastics are all good,..As far as locations near watertown? Im not sure,.,... Im from the north shore and relocated to south shore, watertown is in the middle. But only place near there I do know is the charles river, it has some awesome largemouth in its lower basin. Target the pads via frog or spinnerbait run along the edges
