Help my wife has been bitten

Recommended Posts

My wife has been bitten by the pontoon monkey. :'( She says she wants a new boat she can take a nap on while I find the fish. rather than refitting the old fish and sky. I have never been on a pontoon boat. Are there any designed for fishermen? Anyone have any suggestions as to how to please her that I can live with? :o

There is a pontoon boat designed for fishermen.  I can't remember what it's called, but the front "deck" (the three foot section of deck on the very front of the boat outside of the rails) has two fishing seats and a trolling motor.  I've tried fishing off of a pontoon boat before.  IT WAS AWFUL >:o

I had somewhat the same problem with my wife except she wanted a ski/slash fishing boat. I told her it was a bass boat or nothing of course she said ok we won't be getting a boat, we need something the whole family can use.  trying to reason with her how a bass boat could be for the family wasn't working. Then she asked me why i wanted a bass boat over any other and I just happened to be watching a fishing show and they where right up on the bank almost and I said see look there you can't fish the shallow water with a ski boat. (maybe you can I don't know)  I told her why buy a boat if I can't use it for what I want it for I don't ski and if I am going to be on the water I'm going to be fishing. So that  convinced her and she said well i guess your right get a bass boat

When we moved to SC, I wanted a Jon boat nothing more. My wife talked me into an old Ski boat, I fiqured I would do some work to it, make it what I want. Well turns out, she did not relize she would have to go Pee at somepoint on the lake and she never came out with me. So now I sold the ski boat (took a loss), and am re furbing an old Jon boat like I wanted. My point is, make sure you wife relizes that if you buy the boat she wants, she better come out with you. She will have to Pee on it some how, and she will have to stay all day on the lake with you. Odds are after this she will tell you to get what ever boat you want.

Oh the wife will be coming out with me alright; she loves fishing. Her problem is she has arthritis in her hips and has had both knees replaced already due to the same problem. That makes standing or even sitting for long periods hard for her. Lying down for even a short time helps relieve the pain from her arthritis so she can comfortably fish again.

The lake were I will be fishing is mostly offshore structure but what I am concerned with is how the wind will affect boat control. I might use a couple sea anchors to slow the effects of wind along with a couple of trolling motors. I looked at some of the deck boats as they have a hull rather than pontoons but have the same general layout as a pontoon but they are way to expensive for my budget. I got her to look at a bass boat today but her exact words were "no way". The boat dealer also handled Bennington F series pontoons that come with a livewell bait prep-station with rod holders and just generally set up for fishing. They come in 16 to 22 feet lengths but I am still not convinced. I plan on trying one out through renting before I sink any hard earned money. I have been trying to get her to consider one of the larger saltwater bay boats. They are sort of like a big brother to a bass boat. Maybe I can get her the room she wants while still getting a real "fishing boat. If it had enough space to install one of those couches like on a pontoon it just might work. .

Paparock you're a man among men to be worried about your wife while fishing. Most would hope that she would just stay home. Check out deck boats I found one at lowe.com Look at the Tahita 192, looks sweet.  Bass wishes & happy new year  :o :o

Benzo, you have 4 sons?  You're right, you don't need A bass boat.  You need TWO bass boats. ;D

Paparock, you've certainly got your priorities right.  Wife before fishing.  You're a good man.  I hope you find a perfect boat for your fishing and your marriage!

If you take all four fishing at the same time, ya'll probably don't really get to do much fishing.  Not that it would take a deck the size of an aircraft carrier for all five of you to have room to cast but that's four times as many hangups your gonna have to chase down.

I think one in a boat is best, two if you want to take a friend or family member and three's aggravation.  Any more would be a nightmare.

Well you guys are absolutely correct 4 boys are a handful. Luckily my oldest is 15 he is zach90 on the board he is a good kid and he is an even greater help. I drop him and his 6yr old brother off in the summer at our local pond they stay there all day, up to three times week. My other 2 boys are 2 and 10mos not ready to get out there yet. I decided to get this boat http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/index.cfm?boat=1979 it this or a pontoon(lol)

I need to clearup my post. I made it sound like there's no way I would take my four sons fishing (if I had four). Totally the oppsite, I would get more pleasure teaching them and letting them fish than fishing myself.

My dad is about the only one I fish with, unless my 9 year old granddaughter wants to go. If she's in the boat, the whole trip is catured her having a good time and catching fish. When I see a probable hot spot, I will always tell her to make a couple of cast to it before I try. I buy her good tackle (Curado reels and nice rods), so she ain't out there trying to fish with a $10 Zebco combo junk trying to land big bass (5# bass and 12# stipper are her largest so far), and she can cast the crap out of a baitcaster at 9 (10 in April) years old. A lot of times I let her have the front, run the TM and just do her own thing, she's pretty good at it too. She also gets to drive the boat, just have to keep reminding her to slow down. She also drives the truck to and from the lake (about six miles of county road) most of the time. So, needless to say, she enjoys going fishing with her pappa. Also, needless to say, her pappa enjoys her going.

It should be in the FAQ section. From what they say, it's even easier now than it was before. Before you had to add them to your personnal web page, or a hosting site and then to here. I think they say you can go straight to this site now. I still just use my personnal web page, post them to it and then to here.

Use a photo editor to downsize the pictures to a reasnoable size.

Most IP's offer free web space

There is free sofware you can download and use to setup you personnal web site and transfer pictures to it. Once you get them there, you can add them to just about anything that will let a picture be added. None of this is actually very complicated if you have a basic computer understanding.

There is a guy on one of the lakes that I fish that has pontoon style boat that looks like it was designed with the bass fisherman in mind. It actually looks like it would be fun to fish out of although maybe a tad high for reaching down and lipping fish. They are an older couple and I'm sure the boat is easy for them to enter and exit from their dock. Not sure if those types of boats are challenging to tow around from lake to lake or not. I'll look around online tonight and see if I can track the thing down.

Well I am happy because there are pontoons setup for fishing. Check out the fishing stations on Bennington and Harris Fisherman series. It's no bass boat and I won't beat anyone to the fishing spot but I can live with it. They have baitwells, livewells, bait prep stations, rod holders for trolling, trolling motors, and they are said to be nice for night fishing. After I get to fish it I will post an evaluation. :o

Benzo73:

I've had my eye on that Tahoe Q4SF for a year or so too.  You don't see many of them on the used market, which I would take as good.  My wife loves to fish and she's probably been my #1 fishing partner since we got married.  My daughter is 7 and loves to fish, too, but about an hour of casting with few bites will burn her out.  I'd like her to have something else to do (like tubing and swimming, when they quit biting).  I also like the fuel economy compared to an outboard.
