Where should I go this weekend?

Recommended Posts

I live in Bucks County, PA and would like to catch some smallies. I have a 16' Jon with an 82lb trolling motor: no gas, no oars. Any ideas where to go?

Susquehanna

This^^^^^^ but I'd wait till sunday. Weather is gonna cool down hopefully. This heat wave has really been brutal. Last saturday I got out early while fog was still on the river for some topwater action.

Will my Jon boat handle the current? I only have a 24v trolling motor, nothing on the back. I'm a little nervous about taking my boat in current.

There is very little current this time of year. The river is at the normal fall low. If you are concerned about current you could go to Nockamixen.

I have fished The Giving Pond a couple of times including this past Sunday and my feelings are the same, meh.  Want to like it but never been wowed by it.

I heard the Giving Pond has a ton of fish, but all of them are small.  Is that true?  Would you go again?  is it worth the trip?

I would agree on the size, largest I have ever caught there was 12in.  Not sure about a ton of fish but it feels less pressured than Nockamixon.  Will probably go again once the water temps start to drop in the coming weeks.

Is that pond (giving pond) over by Frenchtown?

What about Lake Towhee?  Anyone ever fish that?

I was there in May. Ramp is extremely shallow; more like a carry-in launch. Gets choked with pads at the end of May. Has some good ones in there, but you have to work for them.

Ah, yeah, you shouldn't go there anymore...small fish, lots of pressure.

Actually, I can't lie. There's nice fish in there. I've pulled 4's and 5's out consistently, both Larges and smallmouth, and I had buddies catch an 8 LM, and another a nice musky. That ramp is just a *****.

As for Towhee...there's fish in there that have never seen a lure. Best right after ice out. It's a pretty shallow place, and like Mega said, another ramp that is a b*t*h!

Would I be able to get in there with my boat?  Crestliner Storm 1700.  Or is it pretty much limited to jons and kayaks?

It's tough with my tin 12' semi v, I usually have to pull it off the trailer. I hit both the above places with yak, canoe, or toon. The ramps are long and shallow, so its tough to float a boat off, especially if the water is low. That being said, I've seen a full sized 21' Triton on Giving Pond. So it can be done.

Maybe I'll check out giving pond on foot before taking the boat out there.

Just a heads up, very limited fishing on foot. If you give me a heads up, we might be able to hook up, and take my canoe. I haven't been up there since early Spring.
