On the water at last

Featured Replies

As a working student, extra funds are pretty hard to come by.  Thanks to Uncle Sam's generous refund, I could finally get a boat.  Aint she a beut?  Not much to look at, but if I can get to the fish, I don't care.  Let me know if you think it's ok, or if I got screwed, or whatever?  Got it on saturday (right when a nasty wet cold front moved in) and I finally get to take it out tommorow after work.

Nice!

First thing I would do is invest another $60 and put floors in that .  Even if you plan to totally deck it with the next wave of money, I would get floors in it for now to fish comfortably.

I have some experience mod-ding jon boats, any questions give me a hollar.

congrats on the purchase, you will love it.................

Alfred

im lookin at buying a 14' jon boat as well... i have a small 5HP outboard, and plan on doing some decks. good luck with yours man.

Nice boat, and if you take LBH's advice to put floors in get some styrofoam insulation and put between the bottom of the baot and the new floor. A little extra flotation and noise deadener. Good luck and be safe.

congrats on the new boat  let us know how she fishes

$60!?? Are you including the carpet? If so what carpet did you use?  Did you use marine boat carpet or outdoor carpet LBH? I'm flooring mine and if i could get it down to $60 for the floors that would be awesome.  I too suggest you floor it though... worth the money.

Finally got to take it out (hell, I just got home).  Runs good.  That little Minn Kota has some huevos.

As for the decking and all that, I'm not sure.  I like it as light as possible, because where I fish, there are no boat ramps.  Today, I pulled the boat off the trailer and launched it by myself.  I'm not sure that would have been as easy if I had an extra 150 lbs of decking and carpeting to lug around.

This is the fish that popped my boat's cherry.  Sorry the pic is all crappy, but I was in hurry to get back to fishin'.  He's a little guy, but he was the first.

I'll go back and catch him again when he grows up.

It doesn't matter how fancy the vessel. I would be just as happy on a raft made of sticks than enything else, as long as I was on the water. It is the most relaxing thing in the world for me, even when the fish ain't bittin'. I didn't get anything back on my taxes so I have to build my own boat (another thread). Nice boat j-bass. I'm jealous.

Hey J, what are the spec's on the boat. (beam, transom height etc)

Did it feel stable to you? The 50lb thrust scooted you along pretty good?

The boat looks great. When you get a gas motor and want to get rid of that trolling motor let me know. Check out LBH's article on putting in a floor. It is cheep and easy and it will make your boat quiet and safer. You should be able to finish it in a day. You will love it.

i want a boat but mommy says i might drownnnn. lol shes only doing her job

J-bass? You there?

I guess you're fishing to much now to re-reply to this thread. lol
