motorguide foot switch on petal problem

Featured Replies

I have a motorguide 35lb thrust trolling motor.  The trolling motor works great on continuous but on the other settings were I need to push down the little foot switch on the petal; it does not work.  I believe there is something wrong with the foot switch.  What can I do to find out?  What do I need to do and/or buy?  Any advice would help.

thx,

I had a similar problem, except that mine was stuck in HBP mode.  I went to my local dealer, bought a new switch and installed it myself.  They told me that this was a fairly common problem due to moisture getting in the switch.  The new switch has a rubber boot over top of it to keep the moisture out.

Mine did the same thing and when I replaced the switch all was OK, not as much the electrical part of the switch as it was the rubber boot gave up. where the boot contacts the part of the switch that you step down on, on the foot control, is hollow and literally cuts the boot. When I replaced my switch I filled that cavity with silicone (RTV) and that spread the load out, has worked great for the last 3 years.

I checked the foot switch by putting it on one of my other trolling motors and it worked fine.  So it is not the foot switch.  Any other suggestions????
