Ponds, cheating?
Ponds are a challenge. They may not have the same challenge of having to locate the fish but bait choice, presentation, hookset, and landing are all the same regardless weather you are at a pond or lake. THe only TRUE difference is in locating fishing sites. After you KNOW a lake, Know migrating routes, underground structure, cover and etc, you are basically fishing """"small ponds""" in a large mass of water. I go out with fisherman all the time on boats who say it must be nice to come out here all the time and I shrug it off. You basically go to burn money and pay (high gas prices) to fish small """Ponds"""" in large bodies of water that hold fish. Weather it be hydrilla, lilly pads, etc.. two miles up the lake, or a 100 yard shorline of timber. Whatever it may be I think you get my point. It's not cheating and I believe it makes you better at pitch to spots, consistant hooksets, bait presentation, and landing. That is largly the skills used in fishing. If you don't have a fishfinder, lake maps, locals advice on hotspots. YOu will waste a ton of gass, time, and aggervation to fish areas blind. Just something to think on.

When bass strike?
Since I flip and pitch a lot I would say most of the hits I get are right when the bait hits the water or during the initial retrieve.(However that may be). That is not to say i do not catch them at other times or during late retrieve. This is just a reference point.

Going to pour my own
I do mine in the basement using the oven. I heat the baits up to 400 slowly for about 10-15 minutes.(This includes heat up time) The microwave is too smokey. This will make them into liquid. I also use pyrex. I dip a senko into plaster paris let it hardin and then remove the lure. This makes a nice mold to pour into. Then I let it plasterize and slowly pull the original lure out. Melt down your plastic and pour it into the hole. Let hardin. The worms should then come out whole and should not rip. It beats throwing your old baits away. If I had a way to post pictues easy I would post some. THey are as good as the originals. Sometimes better in my opinion. I like taking two colors and making swirls and such into the worms. (Brown with white swirl or pumpkin seed with creme swirl) My baits tend to come out very soft. 8-). I use garlic and salt and glitterize everything with whatever need be. Of course store baught molds would save you hassle and such but the whole point for me it is to make new baits at almost 0 cost.

what time for night fishing?
same here. I usually start fishing at 3:00 and leave around 10:00 am during summer during the week (not the weekends) The lakes are usually too busy and bass do not bite as well. Trying to catch a big bass since spring has been a hassle (6 pounder plus ky). I hate summer. Come quickly fall. I like oct. and november fishing too. No skiers and no other recreational people on the water. Die hards only apply.

How often do you go Fishing?
I fish my ponds usually a little everyday and hit the lake maybe once or twice a week. It costs so much to take out the fishing boat. Gotta love the great gas prices. I guess I could always use the old johnboat and let the johnson 115 rest.

Bass keeps juming out of the water?????
Try using a super fluke by zoom if you are fishing shallow water compounds or ponds. It will ride a little under the water but still near the top(rig it weedless.) You should get hits with it. It always catches for me. It does take some time to get the swimming action down.....make sure you don't just reel it in. Give it two or three little tuggs then one bigger one to make the bait roll(make it look like it is injured or going to heaven). Many times they will strike it during this time period. Speed of lure will vary depending on mood of bass.

Largemouth Bass State Records
Check the kentucky fish and wildlife web site. IT IS considered the Kentucky state record all information I posted was from that web site. I simply cut and pasted it. It is now excepted as the Ky record and the rest of the world. By the way Kentucky lake is also starting to produce some killer small mouth.

When is a good time to start back up?
THey are not bitting really good yet here in Ky. I have caught a few here and there but it is a good time to burn up the crappie while you wait for spring to hit full blast. Hurry up high 60's and 70's.

How to fish cold muddy waters
I fish cold and muddy waters a lot during the winter months in Ky around cave run and etc. I usually throw into deeper water, flats, and such. I usually only catch a few bass if any in very, very cold conditions. I throw bigger baits during this time period with the hope of either getting a bass or landing a great muskie from cave run. If you are desperate to winter fish trying fishing the trout. They will bite pretty good till conditions improve or spring comes first. Then time to slaughter the bass and bring in the truck loads. Well, you know what I mean...

Largemouth Bass State Records
It is interesting that kentucky has smaller large mouth bass than some of the other southern states but KY has the world record for the killer small mouth caught in Dale Hallow Smallmouth Bass** 11 lbs., 15 ozs. David L. Hayes Leitchfield, KY Dale Hollow Lake 07/09/55 Lets see then grow a small mouth like that in flordia or calif. Boy, that had to be one great fight.

T-storms and bass fishing
I usually get great bass bites before a storm or a little after. If I am 30-40 minutes from my ramp I will usually ride it out in the best place around if posible. (in a passing storm not a monster with huge winds) If not, why worry about what you can't change. Better chance of hitting the lottery..so they say. I think I will worry more about getting hit in the truck on my way to the fishing hole than the lighning. I sometimes have great fishing all day long after a cooling storm on a hot summers day. Or warm rains during the colder pre spring wheather in Ky.

motorguide foot switch on petal problem
I checked the foot switch by putting it on one of my other trolling motors and it worked fine. So it is not the foot switch. Any other suggestions????

motorguide foot switch on petal problem
I have a motorguide 35lb thrust trolling motor. The trolling motor works great on continuous but on the other settings were I need to push down the little foot switch on the petal; it does not work. I believe there is something wrong with the foot switch. What can I do to find out? What do I need to do and/or buy? Any advice would help. thx, Basswagoner

The current World Record Largemouth
I believe it. I just wish kentucky would produce some better monsters. Biggest I caught this year was a 7 pounder. Pretty big for ky on norm.
