Conventional vs. Unconventional
Truth be told, I'm too conventional. I tend to use lures only in the manner in which they are designed to be used. I could definately benefit from some out of the box thinking. It's not that I don't have some of those ideas, it's just that I can't bring myself to do something that I have no confidence in.

Need help with trolling motor install
Okay Guys, bear with me here. I'm pretty much a novice with this stuff, but I can't afford to pay someone else to do it, so I'm going to have to figure this out. I have a '96 Skeeter SS90. It came with a 12v MG motor, which I'm finally upgrading to a 24v Minn Kota. It's turning out to be a bigger job than I anicipated. I've already been advised that I need at least 6 guage wire. The boat has 10 guage, so I'm going to have to change that. There are three wires there now, red, orange and black. With the 12v, the red and black are being used and the orange is not. I also need to add another battery. The way I understand it, you hook the postive of one battery to the negative of the other battery and hook the positive wire from the trolling motor to the remaing positve post and the negative to the remaining negative post. If that is correct, what is the third wire for? I have a 2 bank charger. Do I need to hook that up differently, or just hook both batteries up the same as if I were running a 12v system? Also, there is no way that I can bolt the mount on with the nuts, bolts and washers that were provided. There is no way, short of hacking a big hole in deck, that I can get the nuts under the deck. The four holes that are there from the Motor Guide mount match up perfectly with the new one, but they are really big due to the fact that the old mount was held on using those rubber anchors. I know that it would be best to bolt it on, but I just don't see how that is possible. The easiest thing to do would be to use the rubber anchors. I really want to do it right, but it seems that I don't have alot of options. Any other ideas? Sorry for the long post :-[ Thanks!

Night Fishing
5/8 oz black Jitterbug, Hula Popper, and buzzbaits are my go to baits. If that doesn't produce, I'll try a 1/2 oz black single Colorado blade spinnerbait or a 1/4 oz jig and pig. Clear water lakes are best.

If everything checks out, it's a steal at $2,500.

mercury 60hp/3 cyl
I have 60 horse Mariner that I bought new in '96. It runs great. I have never even had it tuned up. I change the plugs once a year and do all the other maintenance myself. RPMs are going to depend on the prop you're running.

A tough time of year
Fishing points with Carolina rigged french fries is my favorite post spawn pattern.

Generally speaking........
RocknFish, I live fairly close to you. On most of the inland lakes around here, the first thing I look for is a weedline adjacent to a drop off. If they're not there, I look for weedy flats with deep water near by.

Name your Favorite TV Fishing Personality
I'm probably going to take a beating for this ;D, but as far as personalities go, I like Charlie Moore. Now, if you're talking about educational value, and I have to pick only one, I'd have to go with Bill Dance. I aslo enjoy Hank Parker, Shaw Grigsby and the Linders.

Buzzbait Poll
I probably don't try it as often as I should. The only time it dawns on me to trow one in the middle of the day is when it's overcast and the breeze is blowing. I've caught some good ones on buzzbaits in those conditions. I like buzzbaits with clackers most of the time.

Any good bass fishing magazines?
Bassmaster is the best one that I've come across. I don't care for Bassin'. In-Fisherman covers too many other species for me. Got the first issue of *** mag, that was totaly geared toward covering the tours and didn't contain any actual fishing info. I haven't read some of the others that have been mentioned in previous posts.

c rig question
In addition to making noise, they also help protect the knot. Not necessary, but I wouldn't think of using a c-rig without the glass bead. In stained water I use them on Texas rigs too.

Certfied scale is less than 100 yds from dock.
This is from the another site interview of Mac Weakley There was a certified scale at Dixon when Jed weighed his fish, but it's no longer there, right? Before, back when Jed weighed his fish, there was a certified digital scale up on the dock. What happened was, the man that owned the dock and concession stand his name was Lyle he got rid of the dock, and apparently the city owns the rights to the concession stand. Lyle took his certified scale. But after the fact, (lake superintendent) Tony Smock told us they have a digital scale in the ranger station. First of all, I didn't know they had that scale. Second, I was not about to go toting that fish all over the place. It's not right when there's a whole circus around with a bunch of people poking at it and lifting it out of the water. When Jed weighed his fish, at the end of the day, at least a hundred people had to pick up Jed's fish just to see it. That's what people aren't looking at here. People want to bring up a bunch of negative crap because it sells, and people are jealous. The thing they shouldn't discount is the fact the fish weighed 25 pounds. There's no doubt it was foul-hooked, and no doubt it shouldn't qualify, but it weighed 25 pounds.

Possible Boat...
Looks like a good deal to me. You might want to think about taking it to a shop and have it looked at, just so you know exactly what you're getting yourself into.

What do you use to clean your boat?
As mentioned above, use a wax with Teflon in it. I get it from West Marine. It's a bit pricey, about 10 bucks a bottle, but well worth it. It helps prevent scum from sticking to the hull. Also, wipe it down at the ramp before it has a chance to dry. As far as the live wells, I just wrinse mine out with fresh water and leave it open to air out. I've always been afraid to put any kind of detergent in there for fear that it will harm the fish.

Elecrical problem with engine
I think I have it norrowed down to the rectifier. Does anyone know what would cause this part to melt? Is this an easy fix, or a symptom of a bigger problem?

Night Fishing?
Bait selection had been covered pretty well, so I'll just tell you why I love to fish at night. -I have the lake pretty much to myself -The lack of vision hightens you other senses and tends to make every hook- up more exciting. -It's one of the few times that you can catch them on topwater for 12 straight hours.....that's reason enough to go right there. Just give it a try, it's a whole bunch of fun!!!

Elecrical problem with engine
Hey Guys, I have a 1995 60 Horse Mariner. I've had it since it was new and just had the first problem ever. I took my boat out for the first time this year and noticed that the tach was not working right. The needle was jumping all over the place even though the motor was running great. When we got to our first hole I noticed a puff of smoke come out from under the cowell. I took it off and more smoke rolled out from behind the electrical cover. It smells like melting plastic. Does anyone have any idea what this could be caused from?

motorguide foot switch on petal problem
I had a similar problem, except that mine was stuck in HBP mode. I went to my local dealer, bought a new switch and installed it myself. They told me that this was a fairly common problem due to moisture getting in the switch. The new switch has a rubber boot over top of it to keep the moisture out.

Carolina Rig Tips
Hey fellow bassers, I'm new here. Great post! Lots of useful info. Just want to share a tip that I picked up a few years ago that works well for me. My number one choice for the c-rig is a frch fry. The thing that I do differently is that I rig the bait on it's side....hooked through the fatter side of the bait. When it's rigged that way, it displaces more water allowing it to float better.
