Dual Pro charger problem?

Featured Replies

I have a two bank dual pro charger and each bank has a set of lights that are red at first and then changes to a single green light to show the charging has finished. I'm not sure if there is a problem with my charger or not. But, I noticed when I unplugged the charger and then plugged it back in just a short while later, the charger did not show the batteries as fully charged and it took awhile to get it back to showing a green light. I would assume if everything was okay, it would show green lights immediately. Any thoughts?

I know that my charger will do the same thing. If I remember correctly it goes through 3 cycles before going to green. First brings the battery to apx 14 vdc, then equalizes the battery, then goes into float mode. Float mode being the stage with the green light and is where the constant trickle charge is applied. The equalization mode is where the battery is subjected to different amperages to "cook off" particles that are attached to the plates. This can last as long as 1-3 hours depending on the battery. The process would start from the beginning if the charger looses power.

Ernel, I was wondering if it might be something to that effect. I know the batteries are good. T Mike, I'll give Dual Pro a call just to make sure.  Thanks for the quick help and hints.

Just about all good chargers are going to do this, except those cheap home chargers that just have auto shuf off.. Matter of fact, it's recommended you do that every so often to equalize batteries. The charger will hold in the absorption mode for a preset time before cutting off.   Equalizing the battery is done by extending the length of time the charger stays in the absorption mode.  Commercial chargers have a button you can press but the only way to do it on the On Boards is to unplug them and then plug them back in again.
