I noticed that my local Dick's still had a few Sedona FD's at their original 59.99 retail price. The new FE retails for 69.99 would it be a bad idea buying the discontinued model for it's original price?

Probably. Give it until winter time, that's when the leftovers will most likely be at a deep discount. 

Personally, I would wait. With the new Shimano reels out now, you may be able to get it at a better price. Check ebay too.

i agree, id go with a Pflueger when it comes to spinning reels. most times i see a thread with someone having reel troubles, its most always a shimano
