what rod for topwater Rebel Pop R's?

Featured Replies

I searched this but didn't see any matches.

I just got in a triple pack of Rebel Pop R's

They are P60 1/4 oz.

To get a good presentation should I use a medium spinning rod or a medium heavy baitcasting rod? (Or some other setup is optimal?)

Thanks all!!

That size is easier to cast with a spinning reel, for the rod I use a medium power which is also what I use for most of my top water. Nothing really special needed with the pop r as long as you can cast it

I fish the similar sized Excaliber Zell Pop on a 6' 2" M/XF casting rod. The XF tip recovers quickly and allows me to really work the bait.

Medium spinning or a medium/ML casting would be ideal.

I use a cheaper graphite 6-6 M/MF BC combo with a fast reel for pretty much all my trebles because sensitivity is not required, maybe not even desired. Sometimes when I just about know I'm gonna get some topwater action, I'll use another MH rod just because I don't have 2 M BC combos.

I fish my Rebel Pop-R's on a medium heavy 6'6" fishing rod, but you can use a longer fishing rod if you want.

Had you written this earlier you may have been able to get a really great discontinued topwater rod. I have a Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod, it is 6'3" medium power, moderate fast action and it does a tremendous job with most topwaters but the true niche of that rod is poppers. Look for the rod on FFO, there may be one or two left and they aren't expensive.

I use a 6'6" m-f spinning rod for the 1/4 ounce size.
