Adding brakes to an Aldebaran spool

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently purchased a used spool for a 2015 Aldebaran to have as a spare to be able to swap between two different lines.

The spool did not come with the brake shoes or the hub. I am calling the brake hub the part that the brake shoes attach to, I did not see this part on Shimano spool assembly schematics so I am not sure what the actual name for this part is.

Can I swap brake discs? I tried to pull the one i have off of the spool but it wouldnt come off easily I was scared to damage it. How do you remove it?

If the hub and shoes are not something that is easily transferable from one spool to another, can I buy another one? Shimano does not have the Aldebaran parts listed on their site and other reels schematics do not show this part, only the spool assembly that I assume comes with it installed.

Thanks for the help!

You might try calling Shimano and see if they can help you get the brake assembly.  You can remove them, but I don't recommend it.

Thanks, J Francho. I called Shimano and they do not sell the brake assembly, you have to buy the complete spool assembly. They also said you cannot take the brake hub off of the spool which sounds strange because the one I received does not have one.

If anyone knows of any place that I can get a hold of a SVS Infinity assembly or knows of another solution, let me know.

Thanks,

Shimano's got the patent on that brake hub.  Aftermarket spool manufacturers have pullers to transfer the stock hub onto their spool.  I'd guess you bought a stock spool from someone who did just that.  Hedgehog Studio sells a mag brake kit for that spool but the cost and hassle doesn't merit the effort when you can just order the stock spool and brake from Shimano.  Just call their customer service  and they'll take care of you.

It looks like I might just have to suck it up as a loss and buy a new spool assembly from shimano.
