704 heavy enough for hudd?

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a Dobyns Fury 704 for jigs, worms, pitching flipping, frogging etc. I also just purchased a Huddleston 68 Special and a savage gear small gill. Will the 704 be heavy enough for me to throw the Hudd or any other smaller swimbaits? (hudd gill for example) Please shed some light on this topic and also please suggest a reel to pair the rod with or a heavier rod if you see fit.

As a person new to the swim bait game I am not completely sure what I'm doing.

A Dobyns 4 power is what I consider a MH rod....1/4-3/4 oz. rating, So no way should you be casting a 2 oz. lure on that rod.  I checked the Fury rating.  It is 1/4-1 oz.  Still a mite light for that weight.

EDIT:  There is a swimbait rod in the Fury series.  The 7'9" MH rated 1-5 oz.  It is also known as the FR 795SB.

An article possibly interesting to you.  http://bestbassfishinglures.com/best-swimbait-rod/

no. not even close.

I wouldn't even throw a 1oz spinnerbait on that rod. Should go with their SB rod.

Yea listen to the guys that posted already. The hudd 68 is light as far as swim baits go but you should never be fishing anything that doubles your rod's lure rating.

Not even with a 705 should you be throwing a hudd...

The swimbait rod is your best friend when it comes to huddlestons and big swimbaits..
