Truck liner adding drag

Featured Replies

I am new to this forum, I was searching online and I came across a lot of good information on this site and decided to join. My question is; I just bought an old aluminum boat with plans on converting it into a nice little bass boat (as so many of you have done before), and I saw a tip of painting the bottom of the boat with the Herculiner and Rhinolining. I think this is a great idea, not only does it act as a more durable surface (for when you run into things, and when the boat comes in contact with the trailor), but it can also seal the bottom of the boat. I was wonder though, if perhaps this could add some drag to the boat since it is a textured surface.  I don't plan to win any racing competition, but I was wondering on whether it would produce some slowing with a 9.9-15hp motor. Also, Dupli-Color makes it own verison of the paint-on bedliner at a lower cost, and I was wondering if anyone has tried it before. Thanks.

There must be a placard in the boat giving the Maximum Person/wieght rating. Get a number from the Line-X rep as to how much the liner will wiegh, then factor in how much you and maybe another 200 pounds. If it is less then the maximum rating, I'd say that you are good to go. If it is over, I wouldn't even consider adding the liner. Good luck and let us know what you do with the boat.

Spraying the bottom of the boat? The outer hull? With Rhino liner? Bad move. It adds weight and resistance. If you're worried about keel damage you can add a keel protector...I can't think of the manufacturer but you can do a search on Overtons or West Marine. That might help.

All of the "bed liner" companies you refer to are for lining the inside of a bed...or boat. I would stay away from lining the inside of your boat with these products as well. They put a lot of weight onto the surface they are attached to. They are great for truck beds but I am sure they don't help boats.

Adding/Spraying this to the bottom of the boat seems overkill to me.  It will add a lot of weight, take smore fuel to push if motorized, etc.  Also if you are looking to have to spray the bottom to seall the entire boat,, you have biiger issues with the boat.  Put the boat on some saw horses and put a couple of inches of water in the boat to test for leaks.  Boats are designed to take some hull abuse.

Thank you very much... I will rethink how I am going to repaint it...

Guess i misread the post. I was thinking that you wanted to Spray the Inside of the boat.
