Mono to Mono leader for jerkbaits

Featured Replies

Looking at having a dedicated jerkbait and topwater rod and reel but i currently have 12lb mono on reel.  Do any of you ever tie a mono leader to mono?  I was thinking of tying a 8lb or 10lb mono leader to this when jerkbait season comes around.  I've read on here 12lb mono might be too big in clear water situations.

Thanks

If your going to be typing a leader on anyways I would just do a flouro leader. But I have before used a lower lb test mono as a leader and it worked well.

id roll with the 12lb as is, see for yourself if it is too big for your clear water lakes, probably wont make much difference going down to 10lb...

Too big for what?  I don't have issues getting bit using Moss Green CXX in 10 or 12# size in crystal clear waters.

mono is cheap enough.  Just strip it off and put the 8 or 10lb on.  I typically use backing on all my reels to hold an average of 75 yards of mainline.  It costs me a whole $1.17 to respool 75 yards of 10lb P-line Original.  That said, I've never had an issue with 12lb for jerkbaiting, maybe just sacrificing a little bit of depth.
