Not very pleased with Humminbird

Featured Replies

Hiya folks...

Thought I'd post my experience with Humminbird today.  I have a Humminbird 525 finder on my jon boat, and it's been on the water exactly 3 times.  I noticed yesterday that the transducer was a little cockeyed, so I inspected closer to find out that one of the arms connecting it to the mounting hardware had snapped off.  I haven't run over anything, and it was mounted just hard enough to keep it snug moving through the water.  Heavy weeds (I found many in my lake) were enough to move it about, but I wouldn't think they'd break it.

I spoke to Humminbird's customer service and they are more than happy to SELL ME a new transducer for $45!  I declined, but that's just because I was able to rig it back up using the other wing for now.  Hopefully I'll continue to get service from this unit without having to lay out more cash.  (Saving for a new bass boat next year!)

I'm not entirely pleased over the entire experience, since I just bought this unit.  I'll likely make a different choice next time I have the occasion to purchase a fish finder.

Don't let up on them, I had an old unit LCD 100 I believe that died on me.  I had to send it back but they did actually replace it for me.  You may have to talk to someone else there.  No way should that mount break that easy.  They may want the old one back to inspect so don't destroy it.

Good Luck,

Tom D.

I'm with you.

I admit that I have a very low tolerance level for product malfunction.

I've owned several Lowrance sonar units (portable and deck mount)

happily without a hitch. I owned only one Humminbird and the following year

I could not get it to run (By the way, I'm not unfamiliar with electronics).

Without ever bothering to look if it was still under warranty,

I took great pleasure in sending that unit straight into the dumpster.

I'm sure she loves her new home, away from me ;D
