Veritas 2.0 vs. Duckett ghost

Featured Replies

Looking for a jig rod and must buy from academy(Christmas gift). Which of these 2 would you get? Both will be MH and are the same price. Plan to throw 1\4 to 1\2 oz jigs exclusively

Or would you get an H20 express ethos and save $40.

A lot of the H2O rods are on sale or clearance at my local store. I walked out with a Ethos composite cranking rod for $20. I already have a jig rod but I think the MH Ethos rods were like $35 or so. I have 6 ethos rods and have never had a problem with any of them. I think they are the best bang for the buck rods anywhere. Just my personal opinion of course.

To answer your question, I would get an H2O on sale/clearance and use the extra money on baits/tackle etc.

I like the duckett better but ive heard the guides groove. The veritas has sic guides. Veritas 2.0 is a much better rod than the original. Suggest going one power softer than a duckett because veritas are stiffer.

I have only owned one Abu rod and I agree it felt stiffer than listed. But in your opinion would a medium veritas make a better jig rod for 1\4 to 1\2 oz weights than the MH?  Thanks

On the Veritas if you want a MH get a M. Its a very stiff rod.My MH 1st gen is my frog rod.

Would the medium be a good bottom contact rod? Sensitive enough to feel what my jig is bumping into?

I've never fished the M to say for sure. But I've never had an issue with sensitivity with the MH.

both are good rods. if you can inspect them in store, go with a ghost if the guides are aligned

As most have said, the Veritas is more stiff than what it's rated, and it is a pretty heavy rod, in physical weight. We get a few Ducketts returned due to the guides chipping and grooving, so I'd shy away from the Ducketts if you plan on using lighter fluoro or braid.

Duckett ghosts are great, but the guides are horrible. Love the blank they use, wish it had better guides

Depends on what you like. I like a stiff extra fast rod for jigs.i would go with the MH.

I went with the MH veritas. It felt the best to me in the store. I might have a little trouble with 1/4 oz jigs not loading the rod but pitching the 3/8 and 1/2 work well in the yard. I never can tell for sure about a rid until I fish it for a day. Thanks for everyones help

Personally I like the Veritas 2.0 more. I have it in 7ft MH with a Lews Speed Spool LFS reel with 50lbs Braid and it works great for jigs

I have a ghost and the blanks are phenomenal for a 100$rod I've had no issues with the micro guides.
