I was trying to slowly work over a weed bed and noticed on a TroKar 5/0 EWG Magworm hook with no added weight its constantly rolling over. I was tied directly to it using #15 flouro leader from last year on a spinning rod. I looked at Kietech's rig options and think this would have been their no sinker texas rig. The only difference is the 5/0 and not 6/0.

I did order some Owner beast 6/0 and 8/0 weighted and unweighted. Hoping this will fix the issue but would like to know if others know what causes the rolling.

Are you rigged up straight?

The bait is not stable with out a weighted hook.  You don't need a lot but a swim jig also does a great job.

This has not been my experience at all. I fish them a ton on a 4/0 unweighted Owner twistlocks and never have problems with this. In fact I prefer to fish them this way when I can (i.e. can be in the mid to upper water column) because I think the action is much better unweighted. 

 

@KenP, are you sure that you are getting the hook in straight and in the slots when you are rigging? One of the reasons I like the twistlock is that it makes it very easy to rig up perfectly straight. Screw the cps into the center of nose and bring the hook right into the slot, making sure to come out in the slot on the opposite side. 

You might get away with a perfectly rigged bait supper slow and a 3/0 has worked on a standard 4" keitech bUT the fat it has never worked for me at any speed.

Fishing the keitech fat weightless is kind of a trick. It needs to be rigged just right and can only be swam at slow speeds in my experience. Weighted hooks or nail weights and it runs true.

Yes has happened to me on smaller 3.8" fats.

I use the 3.8 fats weightless all the time and if rigged perfectly straight on a twist lock, they will run true, but there is no margin for error.  

 

 Even a very small split shot crimped onto the hook will improve things immensely however.  I bought some tungsten puddy to try, but I can't get it to stick to anything other than itself and even then it always falls off after a cast or two.  

It appears to me that your using the Keitech Impact as a surface lure, which is a great approach.

FYI. You can add 1/4 oz to the Keitech swimbait and still work it essentially on the surface.

The combination of a swimbait and 1/4 worm weight is very effective around waterlilies & spatterdock.

Just checked it and the hook was through the bottom and top grooves about 75% back on the top with the eye of the hook just inside the head. Given what others are saying I'm guessing the weightless rig is very sensitive to any imperfections. The owner beast 6/0 (1/4) and 8/0 (3/8) swimbait hooks will be here Wednesday. Will also be testing these guys with the OMTD Swimbait SWGs which seem like the perfect weightless fit for the 5.8's thick profile and the dirty jigs MA swimbait hook for deeper. 
 

 The hook size chart that Keitech put out for the Fat Impacts calls for seemingly too small of a hook for most of the sizes.  

 

But I have had a lot of success when I use their recommeded sizes.  

As long as you rig them straight, they should run true at all speeds. Make sure you leave them in their clamshell packaging without pinching them or anything, the slightest pinch or bend in the tail can throw the swim off.

I fish the 4.8" swing impact fat on a 4/0 and they run perfect at any speed. The only time I've ever had any problem with them has been when I rigged them sloppy and pinched the bait up from inserting the hook too close to the front or just not getting it in there reasonably straight. And I have fished them a lot - between the Keitech and the Rythm Wave, I have probably thrown those two baits more than any other over the last couple years and 95% of the time it is weightless. I am honestly surprised to hear that this many people are having trouble with them.

Try rigging them on a weighted Twist Lock Hook, swim them slow or fast. The Keitech Fat Swing Impact has a ribbed body that pushes extra vibrations through the water, making it easier for fish to find. Try the 2.8 inch Keitech Fat Swing on a 1/2 Oz. White Under-Spin hooked to a Sexy Shad or Sight Flash..

Twist Lock was the way to go. Even on a 5/0 weightless the 5.8 swims straight. Worm hooks I suspect need to be absolutely straight or when you adjust it to be weedless it will put a bend in the head and cause the rolling. Not saying it doesn't work but its much easier with the twist lock.
