During some cleaning, I noticed one of my rods (st croix legend tournament bass spin) has a spot along the handle trim that the slow cure seems cracked. There a series of relatively small micro fractures.

At this point it isn't bad, I can feel it'seems rough, but it isn't chipping off or anything. My question is what can I do to keep it from getting worse?? I've heard anything from epoxy to clear nail polsh when I Googled it.

What's worked for you guys? I can always post pictures if necessary  (at work now).

Sorry! Autocorrect got me. The epoxy finish on the rod blank is what I meant. I'll post pics later, I'm at work tonight.

I would go find a local rod repair guy. You might stop in at a local shop and see if they have someone they use. Let someone who builds and repairs rods handle it.  They may need to strip and redo the finish on the rod and to do it right requires a lathe.

ah, ok. If its along the handle trim, and its a very small section, you can just put a thin layer of your own epoxy over it.

Post pics if you want but my gut reaction is leave it alone and keep an eye on it. If it gets worse have it repaired locally. 

All the rods i have seen from croix are painted blanks so you should not have any major structural damage that you can see.  The epoxy holding on keepers and eyes can crack and the epoxy they cover the label with is also not structural.  If you are seeing it, the blank should be fine.  If your worried i would send a few good quality shots to croix for a recommendation.  They have about the best customer service around.

If you can't find someone local, St Croix has just about the best C.S. in the biz.....contact them and see what they say. Legend Tournament rods have lifetime warranties, I am sure they will take care of. If I had to guess at what they would do, they would probably offer you a replacement rod at a deeply discounted price, as it's probably not time/cost effective to strip that rod down and refinish it.
