I melt them and pour my own baits.

 

You could get some cheap silicone molds in the 6-12 dollar range. Don't even need an injector. Just pour in the mold. Got mine at lurecraft. They have TONS of cheap molds.

This thread inspired me. Bought the supplies to make the molds, poured a couple molds this morning. Hopefully I'll have a couple decent molds and I can start melting down some of the 5 gallon bucket full of baits that I have.

That's awesome! Hope you enjoy it!  Beats tossing all those plastics in the trash. I've got a few 1 gallon zip lock bags full.

 

I use uvibes and swimbaits and melt them into more swimbaits. Uvibes are cheap to start with, if you remelt them a couple times they become super cheap.

 

Make sure you've got good ventilation though. Melting the plastics gives off a strong odor, and you don't want to inhale all them fumes.

I'll have the bay door open and ceiling fans going in my shop like I do when I'm pouring lead. I'll try to remember to post pictures of the baits if the molds turn out decent.

If I just did it in my backyard, do you think I would be fine? Same with melting lead, as I might try that too.

They're not the prettiest, but I'm confident they'll catch me some fish.

Nice work Blue! They will get better. I cut the excess off to round them out. But I tried making my own mold and the baits just didn't look how I wanted them. That is why I bought the silicone molds.

 

RMax I don't think you'll have an issue outside other than wind.
