Inflatable fishing boat!

Featured Replies

I was looking to upgrade from kayak fishing to maybe a small inflatable fishing boat, inflatable because it's cheaper and i'm a poor college student and because it's nice and compact! What do you guys think about this one? Or if you guys have any others in mind please share!

I would but I don't have anything to haul it with =/  or a place to store it during the winter times =(

i've been fishing off an inflatable kayak for the past month or so and no hooks in it, a few close calls but the plastic seems to be thick and inflated tight enough to deflect a hook!

if your going to get an inflatable DO NOT get that one!! my friend has it and it is the biggest piece of junk EVER!!

Obviously you can put a hook through most anything if you try hard enough: however, any good inflatable isn't going to get punctured with a fishing hook. I have fish out of an Achilles 10'2 inflatable with a wood floor, pushed by a 55lb trolling motor for a lot of years. Never had even one hook problem.

A couple of must items. Anchor, and drift sock. It's a great boat for areas out away from the beaten path. It's a lot easier to move and haul around with two, but is possible with one. They are not that heavy, but blown up they are awkward.

The wind will have its way with you, however a drift sock works extremely well, and an anchor will keep you on location when needed. 10'2 is good for two people, and a good trolling motor and battery will last all day. With 55lbs of thrust it moves a good clip. Standing is no problem.

I would try to find a cheap kayak, one of the hard ones, not an inflatable.

pink - need an inflatable for space reasons!

George - I'll take a look at that one! thanks!

Try one of these.  They are pretty cheap, very easy to use, very durable and very stable.  I have this model and it is very convenient to use, I don't have a truck, but I can transport is on top of my car with very little problem. It weighs about 45lbs assembled.  I have it rigged with a rod holder for 4 rods and I also have a depth finder mounted to it.  I would definitely suggest getting some scuba fins to manuver with, they make it much easier than the oars, and you still have both hands free to fish with while being able to move around.  I can get into a lot of places even a jon boat would have trouble with.  You can also mount a trolling motor to it, but it does increase  the weight and moves the CoG around.

Here is a website of a fishing club in California that uses these type of boats and float tubes exclusively and they have them really tricked out.

I own a Sea Eagle SE8 inflatable boat and I absolutely love it.  I have the fishermans dream package that comes with a removable hard floor/motor mount/two wooden seats/electric pump.  The material is VERY strong and hooks are not a problem, I haven't sprung any leaks at all.  Two people can easily stand and cast.  I have installed a depth finder, anchor, cup holders, rod holders, and I use a 35lb trolling motor.  The boat EASILY fits into my car (a 1996 BMW 3 series) and sets up in less than 15 people.  It comfortably fits myself my wife and our dog.

People bad mouth inflatables since they assume it will be like a pool toy material but the high end ones are amazing.  I take mine to lakes that have no boat ramps and shore fisherman keep asking me how much it cost and where I got it.

The only problems I have is that wind pushes it around pretty easily without a drift sock and rowing it is pretty hard since there aren't oar swivels but I use the motor exclusively anyway.

Check em out:

You can find them on Ebay pretty cheap too.

I fish out of an inflatable and its not to bad i built my own motor mount and use a 36 LB thrust wind does suck though

I have one of those Fish Hunter rafts. They do not have a lot of room in them. They do not steer worth a darn when rowing either. I haven't tried the motor mount that is available. I have not tried fishing out of it since I have other boats at my disposal.
