Hello,

 

I recently ordered a rod from a vendor through Amazon, and my rod tip came damaged!. Now I can only feel the tiniest amount of 'rod blank' missing, it seems like its mostly paint, so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

 

 

I want to go fishing this weekend, so I really want to use the rod but I'm scared it will break due to its damage. (I'm also concerned about long term functionality, will the rod corrode quicker b/c of its imperfection?)

 

is there a way i could repair it?

EDIT: I should mention that I received the rod well below its price due to an error and I'm worried if I alert the company they might come after me for the rest of the money. So basically I'm asking if this nick is worth the extra $100?

If the price was the companies error, (i.e, if you tried buying the rod from their website, and it would only let you buy it for a huge discount) They should let you return it for a new one. Just let them know that the error was on their end (if it was)

Return it, even if it's only paint damage.  What damaged the paint could have damaged the fibers, and if so, it most likely will fail in service, sooner or later.

I would replace it.

 

Any damage to a graphite blank, even the tiniest dent, can result in unexpected breakage. Graphite is very brittle and fragile. 

 

I'm willing to bet that most rods that break unexpectedly have been damaged in some way. Often, the angler is unaware or thinks it was insignificant. Yet the next time the rod is bent, it snaps like a dry wishbone.

It depends on the rod and the damage. Even invisible damage can cause subsequent failure. In other cases something that looks ugly can last forever. If you got enough of a deal maybe it's worth rolling the dice otherwise exchange it.
