OG Zillion vs Zillion TW SV

Featured Replies

Anyone have both of these reels. I'm interested in how the TW SV performs compared to the original Zillion. Trying to decide if I want to go new school or find an OG Zillion in nice shape. Weight isn't really an issue

The only thing  they share is the name . Sv  Will throw a wider range of baits and lower weights. The stock zillion is good for 3/8+. Put in a tdz100m spool in an ig zillion and it performs much better. Frames are different. Better comparision is the og zillion vs sv103. Id take the sv103 over all 3.

SV103s are discontinued so if you, OP, decide, act quickly!

Sorry guys, let me clarify the question. I have a couple of original Zillions that have been tuned and upgraded with spools etc. and a Megabass IP79. I guess I'm trying to find out if casting performance will be similar to the original.

They're being discontinued but aren't just quite yet. You'll still have time to pick one up.

From what I heard the Tat Zillion TWS SV cast better than the SV103 but is not as smooth.  I'd take the SV103 because it's a TD Zillion with 103 spool compatibility.  If I didn't like they way it casts I could just drop in an R+ or 1016 spool.

Would that work? I thought it was a non standard sized spool?

Interesting. I didn't realise TDZ spools would fit.

The R+ / 103 TDZ spools will fit. The TDZ100m is the same size as the OG zillion spool. It's larger than the others and I don't believe will fit. The 100m spool is a downgrade overall performance wise to the stock sv103 spool. Bombing lures it's close.

A steez Ha or SHA spool should also fit and they have the R+ Inducter and won't break the bank. I'm not a huge fan of the SV spool but I see its purpose and it certainly does what it's made to do. Just a little to controlled for me but I think that can vary a little from reel to reel.

And yes the SS SV. Will take all the 103/105 spools but the SS air will not.  So you have a world of choices to try in the SS SV

As long as it's a 34mm spool then it will fit. So that means any spool that fits a Steez/Tdz/Is will be interchangeable between reels. The 1016 spool works rather well in the SV103. That's the great thing about Daiwa. You can change almost any reel to fit your needs with a spool swap.

Funny though, the T3 1016 won't take any of the Z or  Steez spools. I've tried several and they are all off by a mm or 2
