Jig Rod Setup

Featured Replies

What kind of line would you recommend for throwing the baby boo jigs or similar size jigs? What kind of rod?

More important than what you are throwing is where you are throwing it.

Baby Booya jig is 3/16 & 5/16 oz with 3/0 Mustad Ultra point hook ideally suited as a finesse casting jig. If you currently have a Texas rig outfit MH/fast rod the same outfit will work with with this jig. Line in the 8 lb to 12 lb  test should be good depending on the cover type you fish.

This but I'd be using 30lb braid with a leader from 8 to 14lb.

For me, that's where a stout, MH power spinning rig comes into play.  I use 20 braid, and depending on the cover, I'll tie direct (weeds) or use a leader (wood, docks, rocky substrate).

I'd like a little tip with a light jig like that. So I'd go MH and probably 14lb sniper floro. 3/0 mustad should be pretty easy to drive home and a little softer tip will help casting.

i like MH XF Loomis spinnning rods (803 NRX or GLX) for these types of jigs. 20lb braid or 8lb FC (light cover). the st croix avid or LE spinning 6'8" M/XF is great too. Fishes almost as powerful as a Loomis MH.

for light cover up to 1/4oz plus plastic, the 852s is a blast.
