Fishing Trip Rod Selection

Recommended Posts

Just got invited to a managed lake for three days with two of my buddies. In the past year or two I have hardly been able to fish at all and have been out of the game a little. We mentioned that we are only going to be able to bring three rods each to help save some room on the boat. I have two Dobyns Champ. Extremes that need to be replaced and I am trying to get around spending $200 doing so because I honestly do not know when I will be able to get off work to go fishing again. So that leaves me with a dilemma on which three to take. Would this be good enough to get me through the weekend?

Here is what I am thinking about taking

St Croix AVC66MF w/Curado 200 14lb mono - Topwater, spinnerbaits and small cranks

St Croix AVS68MXF w/ Stradi Ci4 10lb  Flouro - ShakeyHeads, Weightless, Light T-rigs

Dobyns Extreme 704 w/ Curado 50 14lb Flouro - Texas Rigged plastics. 3/8oz jigs and Ribbit Frogs

My only suggestion is to line the second outfit with 15 pound braid + 15-20 pound FC leader.  And take some extra line to handle any serious issues with the lines.

remember when you were a kid and you took off for a whole day with one rod and a pocket full of worms and 3-4 bullet weights in the hook pack in your other hip pocket?  B)  Life was simpler then.  lol

Can't offer a good suggestion without knowing a little about the water and weather/season your area is in...   But, you can easily get by with those rods for a weekend- just pick what you are comfortable with and go have fun.  Or bring all your rods and only take 3 per day out with you depending on the water and conditions.

Ive been fishing 3 setups all the time. I fish out of a basshound.

1. 6'6-7 ft medium fast or xf spinning

2. 7ft medium heavy casting

3. 7-7'2 heavy casting.

This is how i roll. I use 1 for plastics, flukes; shakeys etc.

2 i use for texas rigs, senkos and frogs and spinnerbaits or swimbaits.

And 3 for jigs and heavier frogs
