Got my first boat!!!

Featured Replies

It only took me 5 years to wear the wife down but she finally agreed to letting me get a boat.  I got a 1993 Bass Cat Pantera II with a 150 Yamaha ProMax 2 stroke.  Its in very good condition especially since we wrewired most of it and replaced the electroninc dash with the replacement from Bass Cat.  Anyhow Im looking for tips on boating in general!!!!!!!!  All tips are welcome and the more the merrier!  Ive always been the guy fishing from the back of the boat except the rare occasion when I was able to borrow a boat.  So Im looking for any and all tips, you post it Ill read it!  Ill post up some pictures when I get a chance.

Thanks in advance

Do you mean a Yamaha ProV or a Vmax.  I've never heard of a Yamaha Pro Max outboard engine.

The Pantera's were nice boats, with a 150hp motor you might be a little doggy out of the hole though, that boat was rated for a 200.  Enjoy.

Only tips I can give you is

1) Be careful, and safe

2) HAVE FUN AND CATCH FISH!!!!

Congrats Bitman

Advice?  Hmmmmmmm

Here's a couple of things regarding boats...not fishing.

Always have a change of clothes and towels available in case of a man overboard situation.

Follow all regs regarding the USCG and local boating laws.

Drinking and boating don't mix. I love to drink but not on the boat. One mistake can be fatal.

If you need a waterproof container for electronics and such do not look in the Marine section of any sporting goods store. They are expensive. Look in the camping section for reasonably priced yet functional containers.

Always have two anchors for your boat. One main anchor and one for back up to keep you steady in the wind. A trolling motor is not an anchor unless you have it attached to a line for tossing overboard as an anchor.

DO NOT lose your temper when docking or trailering your boat. Take your time. If things aren't going right, backoff and start over. Docking or putting your boat on your trailer is not a competition. Stay calm even when the wind is shoving you around during the evolution. Be nice to those that are helping you even if you are frustrated. A calm Captain is a very key part to every evolution with a boat. YOU are the Captain. BE the Captain.

Always keep a couple of knives handy.

Always be prepared to get in the water for emergencies.

Always have utility tools available to fix problems.

Alwayshelp other boaters when they need help.

Always carry a tow line. You may need a tow and you may need to tow others.

Always have plenty of drinking water on board.

Always have a good first aid kit aboard.

Have fun with your new boat! ;)

Your right , its a Pro V.  It shoots the hole really nice.  Its got a jack plate on it and Itll run 64 with just me in it and 55 with me and my fishing buddy.  SO thats plenty for me.  I didnt want to overboat myself at this stage of the game if that makes sense.  I want to become a proficient boater before I drop 20K on a newer boat, LOL.

Thanks and keep it coming
