Gasoline Disposal

Featured Replies

I have about 5 gallons of gas that I need to dispose of. It's mixed with oil and Ihave no idea what to dowith it. When I lived in CA there were companies affiliated with our garbage collection companies that would help you dispose of such things. I now live in NC and I have no idea where to dump this gas. Anyone have any ideas?

I will not just dump it. I want to dispose of it properly without having to pay a lot of money for haz mat fees.

I am converting the "little" boat's fuel system and I need to get rid of this old gas.

Check with some of the quick lube places and see it they will let you dump it in their tanks.  If by chance you're military, you can probably dump it at the auto hobby shop's tanks.   If it wasn't for winter being just around the corner you could use it up in your lawn mower.  I do that all the time and just decarb the lawnmower after running it several tanks of it.

Dump it in your car, truck or what ever you drive. If your vehicle has a 20 gallon tank wait to you are almost empty dump in your 5 gallons of 2 cycle gas and put 15 of fresh in there the amout of oil in there is very little. I would not pay to get rid of $10.00 in fuel. Your vehicle will never know the difference.

County or city landfills have reclamation areas for all types of hazmat, batteries, etc.

Thanks Gents but there is no way I'll put this gas in my car or truck and the landfills here do not process gasoline. Maybe I'll check with some garages nearby as Way2Slow suggests.

Lawnmower, that 's where the extra gas goes.

You in the north ? ( my mistake  ;D )

"DO NOT PUT IT IN YOUR CAR!!!!!" I'm a mechanic and let me tell you, that is a bad idea. Modern day cars do not respond well to that. It is also a nice shot to the wallet to replace the converter and or oxygen sensors. Take it to a auto repair or lube place. Someone will take it.

Just Kidding! you can only do that if you live in the middle of no where.

Somebody said you are in the north? Maybe you could give it to someone with a snowblower?

Claude,

Look at my avatar, then look just below it. I am not "in the North"....But, Thanks for your recommendation. :(

Impessive fire!, by the way. Reminds me of the desert. I miss the desert and the West on some days....the days I'm not fishing...

I always keep some old gas around for washing my hands to get grease/oil/paint/adhesive etc off.

Buy a 5 gal. gas can for now so you don't hold up progress on the boat!

Check with auto shops and wrecking yards in your area, many have to dispose of old gas.  If no luck there, try the city or county website where you live, most have a company they use for paint/gas/etc.  our city has a twice a year drop off for chemicals, paint or gas.  (no charge for that)

If none of that works, use it little by little for mower, chainsaw, campfires and fire ants...

Flechero,

Sounds like a good plan. I can always use the extra gas can later. :(

Thanks
