My anti-reverse is only working intermittently. As I reel the handle and check it it works about 60% of the time as I  go around and it's not in the same spot.  I've taken the reel apart and I can't identify any broken components and the spring looks like it's in good condition. Any ideas on what components could be causing the issue? It's a pflueger supreme.  It would be cheaper for me to buy a bunch of components then to send it in to get looked at.

It most likely just needs cleaning. The components are too small to see wear most likely.  If I remember the AR in that is not self contained so the little pins may spill out if you take it down all the way. Pay close attention and be sure not to lose anything

Any time I have had an A-R acting up, it was because it need to be cleaned and then lightly re-oiled. What I think happens is the small pins start "sticking" and won't do their job. I never take the A-R bearing apart, because I fear I will lose the tiny pieces. 

 

What I do is blast and flush the area with QD Electronic parts cleaner out of a spray can, as it will degrease-degunk the area, is safe on plastic, aluminum, etc...evaporates quickly and leaves a clean dry area when done. I don't use break cleaner, some of that stuff is harsh on certain materials, so I find it best to just avoid it altogether and not take chances that I might have used one that is not safe for plastic, etc....

 

When I am all done, I take a q-tip soaked in lube/reel oil and run it around the surface of the bearing/pins a couple of times quickly. And call it good. I find the little $2 bottles of RemOil in the hunting/gun cleaning supply sections of the big box stores to be excellent reel oil.  DON'T over lube it, that will just attract more dirt, grime and gunk and before long it will stick, and act up again. This method has worked every time for me, and rarely do problems pop back up with the A-R, or at least not for a good long time before I have to do the process again.

 

If all else fails...........send it to DVT, he will get it squared away, and give the rest of the real the royal treatment too.

What I do is send it to a friend of mine or DVT. It is amazing what a trip to the shop and a good professional clean and lube can do.  Best of all DVT offers us a discount.  Give him a chance to fix er up.  I really like those reels. My wife uses a 35 Supreme for her frog fishing.

I had the same issue you're having at the end of last season and I cleaned the AR over the winter and used the reel for the first time today and it worked flawlessly.
