Problems with the Shimano Cardiff 300A's free spool

Featured Replies

I recently (and by recently, I mean yesterday) bought a Shimano Cardiff 300A from Bass Pro Shops.  A few hours after buying, I lined it up and went out and started throwing 1.5oz swimbaits on it for around 3 hours with no problem. Today, I went to use it and it started making a squealing sound when I casted it and it wouldn't cast far. Then, when I tried to adjust the spool, I noticed the reel did not go into free spool at all when I pressed down the thumb bar. I haven't taken the reel apart, as I don't know if that voids the warranty. I just bought this reel yesterday, and would appreciate any help I could get.   - Davis M

Loosen the cast control, pull the spool and reinstall it. If it doesn't reset exchange it at the retailer

Saved me some typing  :)

Make sure you don't have the screws to tight. I know if I crank down the frame screws on my 200 it binds the reel.
