any florida guys

Featured Replies

on here that fish. I moved down here and just started fishing for snook, snappers and trout. I was just wondering if any of you guys had tips that you would care to share. I am mainly fishing from shore but I can wade out to about 50 yards. Today I was throwing jerkbaits. Had a few strikes but not much. I will be fishing from Venice all the way down to Boca Grand. Thanks in advance to any advice you could give.

Wow, you're in saltwater heaven!

Between seatrout, redfish, tarpon & snook,

I doubt you'll have any time for sweetwater bass  :D

Don't fish that area but would recommend Rapala X-raps, Zoom Flukes, bone colored Zara Spooks at dawn/dusk, and when all else fails a yozuri Pins Minnow. Must be the one about the size of your middle finger, green back, and silver sides and MUST be the sinking model. They don't look like much, are small, light, and hard to throw but they catch what swims. Counted it up one day and have caught 17 species on the things, everything from trash fish to reds, snook, and tarpon. Trout love them and with the trout have actually seen them outfish live shrimp. God luck and let us know how it works out.

Thanks for the replies. I was throwing my x-rap and pointer. I do have some Pins will give them a try. It was a bad today nobody was really catching anything. Saw at least a 30 inch snook come up and take a swipe at my buddies fluke but missed it. Saw a bunch of fish they were just not in the feeding mood.

One more suggestion - Rapala Flat Rap. Day before yesterday caught a Snook 39 + inches on one. The fish was fat and "deep" if you know what I mean. Could put both fists side by side in her mouth. Weighed well over 20 pounds. Biggest one I've caught in several years. Caught an additional 20 or so but nothing like the one big girl. Was using med light 7' rod and 3000 size reel. Had trouble sleeping that night.

Picked up the pins minnow you recommeded this morning. Are you fishing it more as a jerkbait or cast out let sink to depth and retrieve or just let the fish tell you what they want. Picked up some gulp shrimp as well. Going to go hit the water here about 30 minutes. Will be wading the flats on the back side of Gaspirlla island.
