Recently I've been trying weighted swimbait hooks for a variety of applications, and have rigged up both Paca Craws and Keitech Fat Impacts on them.

 

I've been using some Gamakatsu and VMC weighted hooks.  Both have worked well.

 

I came across the Berkley Fusion 19 swimbait hooks at DSG.  They look decent and are competitively priced compared to the Gamakatsu's, Trokars, and others.

 

To me, the VMC's seem sharp and very stout, and the price is reasonable.  I had no problem hooking fish with them.  The downside is that I feel like the unconventional wedge-shaped weight picks up debris easier than the weight on the Gamakatsu, but maybe that's my imagination.

 

Interested in any opinions and experience with these two weighted swimbait hooks.

 

 

 

 

I have no opinion or experience with any of these hooks, but I'm not sure what hooks you want feedback on.  You asked for opinions on two weighted swimbait hooks but mentioned Gamakatsu, VMC, Trokar and Berkley Fusion 19 hooks.

 

I'm assuming you want comparisons between VMC and Fusion 19?

I am looking for input and recommendations on weighted EWG swimbait hooks, because I'm experimenting with different versions and re-stocking.  I'm starting off with more modestly-priced hooks.

 

1) Has anyone tried the new Berkley Fusion 19 weighted swimbait hook? Do you like them; why or why not?

 

2) If you've used the VMC weighted swimbait hooks, what has been your experience with those?  Any concerns or opinions about their unusual weight configuration?

I have a pack of the Berkley Fusion 19 4/0 1/8 oz that I want to try with Sweet Beavers, Fighting Frogs, Rage Bugs, and Rage Craws. 

 

I am currently trying out the Owner Weighted Twistlock Light 4/0 - 3/32 oz for a finesse presentation of small swimbaits and creatures (missile shockwave 3.5" and BBB Fighting Frogs)

 

Aside from that I have used with success, the Owner Weighted Twistlock CPS Hooks (3/0-1/16 & 4/0-1/8 oz) and Moaner Weighted Stroker Hooks (4/0 & 5/0 - 1/8oz)

I love the VMC hooks. BUT I don't use the swimbait hooks. I use the Drop Dead weighted hook. It has a slender weight, and gets through vegetation very well. The swimbait ones with the triangle shaped weight is just annoying.

Also the hook is longer than most swimbait hooks.

On a 5 inch swimbait I use a 5/0 but a 4/0 works too.

I have used the Berkley Fusion with no problems at all.But my go to is a Moaner.They seem a little stronger and sharper.I use the 4/0 1/8 ounce for Rage rigging.Great set up

Hate the VMC swimbait weights. Gamakatsu catch stuff too since its squared off. I use owner beast for fishing in grass, gamakatsu in rocks

I buy bulk  50 at a time weighted swimbait hooks in the 4/0 1/8 oz. size  with the screw lock from eBay. They work great and are cheap. 

I've had issues with rolling the points on the Fusion worm hooks. I really like the trebles though. 

I've used the VMC weighted swimbait hooks and the Owner CPS (both light and regular) swimbait hooks.  Owner easily won that battle - hook sharpness, coming through cover, durability.  I am so pleased with them that I switched to the Owner CPS worm hooks for almost all of my regular plastics presentations as well.  I highly recommend.
