Looking for a certified scale

Featured Replies

Mods - If this is in the wrong forum, please move it to the appropriate place.

My research tells me that if I catch a record weight fish in New York State, I will only get the record if it is weighed on a certified scale.  Can somebody please send a link or at least information on where I can purchase one, along with what is a good price for a model.

Thanks.

Usually the county has it certified ?

A Boga grip is a scale that is accurate enough to be certified. You don't simply buy a certified scale, you buy one that is listed by the IGFA that is approved to be certified then you have your local bureau of weights and measures test and certify the scale and it has to be done yearly I believe.

Pretty much this...

Buy a Boga or a Chatillon, both spring scales, then send it off to the IGFA for certification (you can check locally first to see if it can be done). Expect to drop $100 give or take on the scale, and maybe a quarter of that on the certification.

Look at your local gas station, the weights & measures phone number should be listed on the pump certification. Any scale with accuracy of 1% can be certified. Every local market that sells meat and produce by the pound must have a verified scale, all post offices have verified scales. Suggest you read all the IGFA record application requirements.

When I fished the Atlantic Ocean I used a Chatillon spring scale with a 100-lb capacity.

In freshwater though I use a Brecknell ElectroSamson Scale (22-lb Capacity with 1/4oz Precision)

I believe it's the only digital scale approved by IGFA, in fact the pending world-record

spotted bass was weighed on a Brecknell scale that was certified by the IGFA.
