16 in bass

Featured Replies

I caught about a 3 pounder I guess, was 16 in long, on a 2 in Rapala  countdown 3' -6' along with 2 one  ponders. All hit it near the grass.

I was  reeling it sort of fast , muddy water about 6:30 pm

Congrats! 16" is around 2 pounds, I'd wager,

unless it was a real fatty. Chart below is a general

gauge, not the be-all-end-all. There are other

charts out there which differ slightly, but put 16"

in the 2+ pound range.

Download and keep that chart handy. It has helped me

when I didn't have a scale, but was able to measure

the fish. :)

Surely you know by now girth is important :D

Caught a 19.5''  bass one time that was just 2.6 pounds

Yeah, usually a 16" fish will be somewhere close to 2lbs, but if you get a real fat one they can be considerably more. This smallie was only 16.25", and a touch over 3.25 pounds.

Cassidee usually has a smile on her face, especially in the boat or when she's outside.

Fish weights can be all over the place, just like us human beings.

Prime example. This smallmouth was 22-7/8" long, freshly done spawning. Only weighed 3.6 pounds.

But yet this largemouth was 16.25" long, and weighed in at 3.34 pounds.

I caught a pretty chunky 19" largemouth this weekend weighed 4.03 on my digital scale fwiw. I've caught smallies where I thought they were monsters when I got them in my net. Weighed out at 3.7 and 3.5lbs. Didn't get a length on them. I have not weighed anything of known weight to check my scale (I should probably do that).
