The bait shops will let you know what they are catching them on. Buy a lire or two from them. wont hurt anything and I bet what they sell you will work.

Back in 1965 , I was fishing in our small farm pond. I made a wayward cast and threw a black worm in the trees hanging over the water. It was about 6 inches above the water and a big bass grabbed it. Broke the line and was never seen by me again. Yes bass can see black very well. No need to mark the line black IMO

I bet if you asked the landowner in a nice way you could fish. I would not tell him or her that you have the right to fish on his or hers land. That would not set well with me. Most landowners will let you fish if you are polite and don't leave a mess. I let anyone fish that ask. I run those off that do not ask.
