Steel Angles

Featured Replies

looking to redo my casting deck on a 14' V-Hull. I am thinking of riveting steel angles to the sides of my aluminum boat. then, i would run 2x4s across the width of the boat, supported by a 4x4 in the middle running up/down. Will steel react with aluminum? will this work? thanks!

Use Aluminum angles or you will expedite galvanic corrosion caused by dissimilar metals.

Use solid rivets and high zinc primer everywhere bare metal is exposed.

Don't ask me how I know!?

Stainless steel will not react with aluminum but, that might get costly.

Weld it ;)

Not to belittle anyone CATT, but if he's asking this question he's probably not capable of aluminum welding.

JB won't work either!

Unless you have a pneumatic rivet gun riveting aint gonna work.

Don't where y'all live but having something welded round here is cheap!

The angle material on the sides could be mounted using screws  coming from the outside in.  I would use a panhead type screw.  I have mounted a few items on the side of my jon boats that way before.
